BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — An honor this afternoon for the Broken Sound Club Golf and Country Club Community from the State of Florida. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) says the club is top notch when it comes to recycling.

John Crean, CCM, CCE, General Manager of Broken Sound Club, accepted the commendation for achieving a municipal solid waste recycling rate of 92% at the community. Broken Sound, which employs 350 people and is home to nearly 1,600 families, has woven environmental stewardship into every aspect of its operations.  Broken Sound Club is only the second golf facility in the U.S. to be GEO Certified™ — the sustainability assurance of the international non-profit Golf Environment Organization (GEO).  The Club also launched operation of an environmental composter/digester to reduce green and food waste and produce refined compost and is host the PGA Tour Allianz Championship, Feb 6-12, which will be among the nation’s first zero waste golf tournaments.

Named a Five Star Platinum Club of America by the Club Manager’s Association of America – a distinction held by fewer than three percent of the nation’s 6,000 private clubs – Broken Sound spans approximately 1,000 acres. The community provides a multi-faceted social and recreational hub with two golf courses, a 23 court tennis center and 27 residential villages, ranging from custom estate homes to patio homes, villas and townhomes.
