BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — A major event is set for FAU on March 10th to benefit Autism research. For more, here is the official press release from FAU:

Florida Atlantic University’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) will host the third annual “Wings of Hope” charity reception on Saturday,

Judi and Craig Donoff will be honored at FAU’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities “Wings of Hope” event on Saturday, March 10. The Donoffs have been instrumental in raising the awareness of autism and the role of the FAU CARD within the Boca Raton philanthropic community.

March 10, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Delray Acura Premier Club level of FAU Stadium, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.  A VIP event for sponsors and benefactors will take place preceding the reception from 6 to 7 p.m.  All proceeds from the charity event will benefit CARD, which provides free expert consultation and training to families and professionals affected by autism spectrum disorders.

The event will honor Judi and Craig Donoff of Boca Raton, who have been instrumental in raising the awareness of autism and the role of the FAU CARD within the Boca Raton philanthropic community.

“CARD faces continual budget cuts while the number of people being diagnosed with autism continues to rise along with the number of individuals and families seeking our services, forcing us to figure out how to do more with less,” said Jack Scott, FAU CARD’s executive director.  “The gifts of the Donoff family and our many other supporters help us to maintain and expand our much needed programs and services to local children and families.”

FAU President Mary Jane Saunders and Robert Rubin, member of FAU’s Board of Trustees, will be in attendance.

The reception will feature live music and a silent auction, including handmade wooden boxes of art that have been beautifully decorated by artists.  The artists were invited to use their imaginations to decorate the boxes with their personal style. Tickets for the event cost $175 per person or $350 per couple.  Eppy Financial Services and Slomin Family Center for Autism are gold-level sponsors, and First Capital is a bronze level sponsor.

Housed in the College of Education, FAU CARD serves as a multidisciplinary learning laboratory for members of the community including FAU undergraduate and graduate students.  One of seven such centers in the state, CARD currently serves more than 2,500 registered clients, most diagnosed with autism or autism spectrum disorders such as Asperger syndrome, pervasive development disorder not otherwise specified, Rett syndrome and childhood disintegrative disorder.  FAU CARD acts as a clearinghouse of information, and its services and programs reflect a strong belief in early intervention. The focus of FAU CARD is to optimize the potential of people with autism and related disabilities by enabling them to learn, work, communicate and socialize in the community.

In addition to locations in Boca Raton and the Treasure Coast, CARD’s specially equipped van serves as a mobile assessment clinic by bringing FAU CARD professionals to various locations to provide free screenings to children, ages 18 months to 5 years old, who present signs of autism and other developmental disabilities.  Service area includes Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Indian River counties.
