BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Florida Atlantic University is preparing to host a rather unique 3D production. Odds are good that you've never seen anything like it before.
Florida Atlantic University’s Arthur and Mata Jaffe Center for Book Arts will host the North American debut of “The Icebook,” a three-dimensional cinema production created from paper and enhanced by light projections, for 10 shows daily from Friday, December 7, through Sunday, December 9, at the Wimberly Library, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
“The Icebook,” a love story about a princess who lures a boy into a forest to warm her heart of ice, is recommended for ages 10 and older. The show is 50 minutes and will be presented on the hour and half hour for up to 12 people. The shows will begin Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 each. Donations above the ticket price are encouraged, but not required. To reserve tickets, visit the “events” page at www.jaffecollection.org or call 561-297-0455.
“We are extremely proud to host the North American debut of this fascinating show, which has already been performed for sold-out audiences throughout Europe and India,” said John Cutrone, director of the Jaffe Center. “This is an exquisite experience of fragile paper cutouts and video projections that will sweep you into a fantasy world.”
Each page of the fascinating pop-up book unfolds into an animated miniature world. Projected characters appear to move behind paper cutouts, creating an illusion of perspective. Shadows and silhouettes are created as light is projected through paper.
British artists Davy and Kristin McGuire, a husband and wife team, created “The Icebook” as a model to interest producers and sponsors in a full-scale show, but the project turned into the miniature production, which has been an overwhelming success. The show’s 2013 tours already include Japan and Australia. The actors in the performance, played by the McGuires, are filmed against a makeshift screen and superimposed onto a photo montage.
The Jaffe Center will host “The Icebook” with the generous support of Hotel Biba in West Palm Beach; Rhythm Café in West Palm Beach; Convivio Bookworks in Lake Worth; Jerry’s Artarama in Deerfield Beach and West Palm Beach; John Rachell Fine Art in Lake Worth; and Howley’s in West Palm Beach. Sponsorships are still available.
