Jean Silva, 18, died near the intersection of Palmetto Park and Powerline Road.

UPDATE: December 5, 2012: We have learned that at the time of his death, area police departments had received information that DaSilva was stealing motorcycles out of Broward County. The investigation continues.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — A teenager driving like a maniac on Palmetto Park Road died when he “popped a wheelie” police say and fell from his stolen motorcycle near the intersection of Powerline Road.

Jean DaSliva, 18, was rushed to Delray Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says DaSilva was “traveling at a high rate of speed” when he lifted the front wheel. “When the rider set the front wheel down,” police say, “the motorcycle began to wobble. The rider lost control of the vehicle and it overturned.”

It is unclear how DaSliva came into possession of a motorcycle that police have identified as stolen.

  1. You assholes are wrong!he was not doing high speed he was a great guy and having fun riding his motorcycle. He died doing what he loves and he died because it was his time and nothing else! U are a disgrace !!!

      1. Most of the time you guys get 90% of the story incorrect so it is hard to believe any of what you say is true. News is only shocking if there is a twist to it and Boca News Now is famous for putting twists on stories. If Jean had just hit a rock on the road wobbled and crashed Boca News Now won’t have what they consider an interesting story. Beside the twist Boca News Now puts on stories you never get persons age correct, sometimes the name isn’t correctly spelt and you don’t even have the date in which this happened. Get your facts straight before posting inaccurate stories. The community will greatly appreciate it.

      2. We actually have an entire department that just makes stuff up. Police tell us there was an accident and we add facts like “it was a stolen motorcycle.”
None of this ever comes from the police.
        Never.
And we are also part of the great media conspiracy and take part in the mainstream media conference call each morning at 11.
        Thanks for reading BocaNewsNow.com.

      3. Just as FYI.. this is why you are not a leading source of reliable stuff “BocaNewsNow.com is completely independent and local. We are not affiliated with any newspaper or real estate firm.”
If your going to report news, do just that, go on other newspapers sites and make your story but to sit here and make fun of people who have passed away REGARDLESS of how. Your company should refrain from writing comments such as the ones you do.. ” we have an entire dept that just makes stuff up.. And the fact you have to add your other 2 cents about the great media conspiracy… This might sound funny to you but you guys are really heartless and I hope when you go home at night, may your family treat you the same way you make fun of others. Wait til u have a death in your family and people start making jokes, guess then you will realize the pain you are causing many who have come to your site for information and not your opinions of what you think of others.

      4. Ok, whether the bike was stolen or not, you have no right to say that this boy was a piece of crap. His family and friends read this, and to read the horrible comments you guys are making isn’t helping the situation at all. I’m not saying he was right, but you and the Boca news staff should learn to be more supportive of this situation, rather than making unnecessary and rude comments. Show some respect for this life that passed and his family who is going through a hard time right now.

      5. This happened just outside my office and we ran out to see what happened. Somebody out there told me they spoke with a witness who said he was doing a “wheelie”.
This doesn’t mention how he was a piece of crap. It simply states he was riding in a STOLEN mortorcycle. I’m sure he was a good friend to many and it’s unfortunate for his family but Boca News is simply stating the facts, that this young man died riding a stolen mortorcycle while trying to pop a wheelie.

      6. He left behind a family, condolences to the family. Lets be grateful that when he fell off of the bike, the bike didn’t fly into somebody’s care, or hit a 10 year old kid walking to chipotle on the sidewalk. I see facebook posts about him and how people are “making up stories.”
This is very simple. The police found an 18 year old (somebody with not even 2 years of driving experience, who knows how much motorcycle experience), he crashed a stolen bike, killed himself, and that’s it.
Bocanewsnow isn’t reporting any lies. It’s all public police report record, anybody can access that information. People need to stop slandering the media in accusation of perjury, and everyone should walk away from a lesson well learned.
Lastly, that kid is a criminal, he obviously had nothing going for him at 18 years old. And to be honest, its a 45 mph speed limit. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. He was obviously doing something reckless. Goes without saying, this kid is an idiot; it’s unfortunate that he was unable to behave like an adult. He killed himself, and in the process he hurt others.
One less scumbag criminal off of the streets of the tri-county area.

      7. First of all if this was your son or your brother or even family you wouldn’t accuse him of doing something you didn’t actually see him do ! Its very low life of you to call him a scumbag when you didn’t even know him! You didn’t know Jean and I did! I remember he worked his butt off for that bike and in all honesty I hope he is laughing at all you low life people in heaven! You all can Judge so quickly if its not about yourself. Jean might have been young when he died but I know FOR A FACT that he lived this life more than any of you! Boca news always reports half of the truth everyone knows that. Its boca for crying out loud if there is no drama its not the news! I hope one day soon you learn a lesson about judgement and I hope you feel the same way we all felt when jean passed to a better place. YOUR A WORTHLESS SCUMBAG!

      8. I think your the idiot for even writing something like this. Reporting news is one thing, in which no one is saying this newspaper , who is privately owned and not associated with anyone (i can see why) . its the point that they go OUT OF THEIR WAY in making snotty comments and giving your opinion is not part of journalism. You learn that in SCHOOL. No one cares what YOU have to say. Just report the news for gods sake. One less scumbag criminal off the streets? Who are you to judge? Your probably one of those people who brag about their kids meanwhile they are doing drugs and things you would never think your little angels would do. Open your eyes and stop judging people, look at the world around u. Criminal or not, someone lost a son, a sister, so stop being so judgmental and keep your remarks to yourself. Speaks lots about yourself, you seem to be a bitter angry person. Guess your old like the rest of the bitter and angry category along with this .com

  2. so what if they got the date wrong or how fast he was going, he had a stolen bike and he killed himself on it. better that way then some catching him stealing their bike and killing him themselves, because i would have. its unfortunate but being a good kid that play xbox all night doesnt fix stupid

    1. As a news writer, you should have learned in school not to put your two cents in. Your opinions don’t matter. Your job is to report the news and not come back and mock people or make fun of others. Jean could of been on a stolen motorcycle, he still LOST HIS LIFE. Have some kind of conscious and don’t post snotty remarks. It just makes your .com like all the others. What’s the point of coming here? To see boca news posting rude, childish responses to people who have lost someone close to them? Grow up and shame on you who ever is responding on behalf of this website. I will personally make a phone call and make sure you lose your job. Maybe then you will think twice before posting your comments. R.I.P Jean Dasilva aka Jean Slider. May god keep your family safe and comforted.

  3. You guys are really rude you made him seem like such a bad kid. .so he died doing what he loved always a rider. I love you jean why not mention that a lady prayed for him at the scene and thats an interesting story.

    1. Good kids don’t steal motorcycles and risk the lives of everyone around them by speeding and doing wheelies on Palmetto Park Road. But we are certainly sorry that he died.

      1. Jean was into a few crazy things, and yes the bike was stolen. but regardless, he was a good reliable friend, and he had a family who will miss him. the title should read ’18 year old boy dies in motorcycle accident.’ and I would like to maybe get some more information as to the woman who prayed for him, if he said anything before he passed, and who was riding with him. his friend was riding next to him just incase you clowns didn’t know. but I guess when you have very limited funding and almost no know-how it probably is hard to find out.

      2. but then again, you have the right to say whatever you want. but if I were you, id keep your arogant opinions to yourself. especially if your face to face with some of his friends. they would probably give you the ass beating you deserve.

  4. This is Darwinism at its finest. At least he saved the tax payers money for his future crimes down the road. I just wish the guy he stole the bike from could get it back in one piece.

      1. Dont be closed minded! He bought a bike he didnt know was stolen can you all stop being so stupid and remember its just the news where 95 percent of the information is not true! They are just getting rumors and making it bigger! so they can get more readers. STOP BEING A CHILD GROW-UP!

  5. Its ridiculous what you guys make up to get a “good” story. Just like Rachelnhad mentioned he was a GOOD kid & you guys don’t have proof that he stole that motorcycle. There’s something missing in this whole story!!!

    1. The cops have it listed as stolen. What more proof do you want??? Your friend was piece of crap. We are all better off with him no longer here. The fact you are trying to defend him also says a lot about yourself as well.

  6. The bike Jean was riding was purchased by him, he had not known that the bike was stolen. Now, popping a wheelie is a very reckless act, but at 18 years old, who doesn’t do stupid and reckless acts. This boy made a mistake, but there is still a mother without a son, an uncle without a nephew, a sister without a brother… This person is DEAD because of a mistake he made when he was 18, that doesn’t make him a bad person. RIP Jean.

    1. If he didn’t know it was stolen, it would suggest that he never registered the bike. He wouldn’t have been able to get a license plate or registration since the bike’s VIN was flagged. In other words, he was driving an illegally registered bike.

    2. Well said.
I’m really surprised that someone from Boca news is writing such terrible things.
Certainly not professional journalism. Present the story without your opinion. You never know- one day someone you love may be reckless and you’ll be on the other side Eating your words.
      God bless the family.

  7. First of all, for this bulls… ass article to be published just proves the nastiness of your character. The kid passed away, and you really have the heart to be sitting here saying that he deserved this? I can put fifty stacks on the table that i DONT EVEN HAVE that you have done your share of mistakes in your life. Who are you to judge someone without knowing them?! how can you be so coldhearted to say that? “What more proof do you want??? Your friend was piece of crap. We are all better off with him no longer here.” Andrew, drop dead. And i wish you the absolute worse. Karma is a mean ass bitch and you’ll get your share. The day you lose someone, i hope someone tells u that they got what they deserved. Ill tell you that right now for the future. its one thing if the article is posted, its another thing if the “boca news” sits here down-grading Jean. All of you can go f… yourselves.

  8. You people are pathedic jean wasn’t a bad kids people make mistakes noones perfect and for u ppl that didn’t know him and didn’t have such a happy smart kid in ur life should stop talking so bad about him just because you know some questionable details about the accident doesn’t mean that’s who he was!!! We love u jean always and for ever rest in peace we’ll see you soon

    1. I can tell you that jean was a sweet kid that tryed to do the usually right thing. Granted he was young and young kids make errors in judgement. I find him to have been an amazing kid and if he had been given the chance he would have grown to be a great man. As for the bike, who are you to assume he stole it. Just because it was stollen doesn’t mean that he even knew it was a stollen bike. As for the wheely. If it’s even what happen, an error in judgement which at some point in life we all make. Make no mistake, Jean was much loved by all. If you knew him, you would understand what I mean. Don’t judge so quickly. This is comming from a responsible adult. He wasn’t as reckless and crazy as you view him. Just a free spirit who’s time came too soon.

  9. This is so unprofessional, Jean was a good person always helped people. They speak more about the stolen bike then Jean. How dare you call him a maniac. he might’ve made a bad decision but it still gives you no right. He died doing what he loved. Becareful what you say. You never know if this can happen to your loved one & i bet you wouldn’t like people saying unnecessary comments.
We love you Jean & you will never be forgotten. Watch over us, we’ll see you soon. Rest easy baby. You’ll forever be in our hearts.

  10. you guys are ridiculous…someone lost their life and your sitting here talking about how they deserve it….who are you to judge? just cause you hear something you believe it…oh just cause the “police” said it…well guess what the “police” dont know everything and the “police” are humans too which make mistakes…and also, they said its under further investigation meaning nothings for sure. and BocaNewsNow.com Staff idiot who commented earlier…your truely effin dumb if you think people who steal and sell bikes dont know how to work their way around the system. obv Jean could had bought that bike and even registered it…and would have only known it was stolen when ALL vin #’s were ran on the bike…so you need to stfu cause your tlkin about shyt you dont even know..second he wasnt speeding and if you call that driving like a maniac you might as well call everybody else one too…cause as soon as i hop on 95 where the speed limit is 60-65mph if im not mistaken everybody’s doin 80-90mph including you i bet. so why dont you just shut up,write a real story…the truth about what happened..and keep your opinion to your self cause honestly you dont know Jean and you obv dont know what happened…and its def not your place to judge…so if i were you..id show some respect ask God for forgiveness..and pray good karma for my loved ones…cause you reap what you sow and you writting this story and saying all those stuff about Jean your def not sowing anything good…so id be real careful if i were you.

  11. I am very saddened by the lack of respect shown for this boy who paid for a mistake with his life. We have all made mistakes while driving (texting can be just as deadly) I am glad to hear from one of the commentors that a lady stopped to pray with him during the final hour of his life
That would have been a great story to write about
Let us all drive a little safer and I will pray for Jean and his family

  12. To whoever that is writing back to all the comments being made by Boca News and Staff, I’m sure you have a love one. If it is a wife or husband or a child. You should be respectful to what has been taken place with the lost of a love one. Yes, he might be at wrong with what had happen but by insulting him makes your company/business down grading to yourself. He is dead and nothing can be done to change that. Honestly debating about him stealing or not stealing is beyond the question. He is no longer here to defend himself. No one is perfect and not even yourself. No one is to judge, and you have no right to be stating that is was a good thing that he is now dead. No one deserve death and mostly in the way he left us. Only God has the power to judge us, you are not God. You might being pointing out facts but do be disrespectful and condescending rude comments. I just hope God has mercy on your life. Because Jean left his loves ones but no one should be bad mouthing him without know the poor kid. Hopefully you know that humans are all brother and sisters so before you go talking bad about a child look at yourself and see if you would want to be in his place. Have respect for those who are no longer with us. By the way God bless you.

  14. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.(Matthew 12:34 )
Who cares about a bike, a material thing that money can buy another one?? This kid lost his life, the mother lost her only son!! I dont care if he stole or not the bike, I really don’t know if this is the case but if it is, so what?? Everybody deserves a second chance, who never ever did anything stupid?? And who does not make mistakes? Who does not sin in the eyes of God and of society?
We all who went to his funeral, we all know he is resting in peace in the heaven, like the Pastor said, God took him from us because that was his time to go, and now he is resting in peace!!
WHO CARES what people who do not knew Jean and his family think ?
Jesus is the only one who can searches the heart, who can forgive us of our sins and mistakes. Jesus is the only one who read Jean’s mind and heart at that moment.
GOD IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN JUDGE!!
“Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone ” (John 8:7)
” There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.” James 2:13

  15. All I have to say is KARMA. Calling Jean a piece of crap wasnt necessary at all. It doesnt matter if the bike was stolen. The only thing that matters is his death. Kids make mistakes all the time when they are young and so do adults. You guys made adults made a mistake talking shit about him. So I hope who ever wrote this bullshit about Jean gets fried. You dont deserve to have a job. You are heartless. Rest in Paradise Jean, love you and miss you.

  16. I never got the change to meet him, but my son did and he told me he was a nice person, I used to see him riding bikes in front of my house when he was when he’s friends and he always said hello to me. I saw the accident maybe two minutes after it happend and rescue doing their job to save him and the good lady that was there right next to him. All I want to say my condolences to his family and all his friends. He is in a better place because God called him before allow us. Like I said I didn’t meet him but he will be remember. Rip Jean

  17. Beyond Critical Voices:Anytime you set out to do something great in life, there’ll be critics. If you’re going to be a great businessman, coach, student, leader, there’ll be opposition. The more success you have, the more opportunities there will be for distractions. The higher you go,the more haters will come out. When you start stretching to a new level and pursuing what God has placed in your heart, the jealous people, the critical people and the small-minded ones come out of woodwork and start making negative comments, but you don’t have to distract you.Jean for many times was under pressure in life.He tried his best. His heart was what matter most.He almost looked beyond the critics. He almost stood strong in adversity. He almost pressed forward to what lied ahead and won the prize of life.Indeed,he only lived good 18 years old, maybe wasn’t enough for us,but….He gained eternity a few seconds before his death;A pastor had asked him three times,”Jean,do you accept JESUS,the only, as your LORD AN SAVIOR?He answered, yes I do.He is there for sure in much better condition than we are.Let’s stop judging people.Jean,I’ve always loved you;your mom’s loved you;your grandma’s loved you;your aunt’s loved;your family’s loved you;all your friends have loved you.Heaven’s loved you.God’s loved you. That’s enough.See you soon.
