Bizarre Parking Promo At Boca's Town Center Mall Raises Questions

Parking promotion Boca Raton Town Center Mall.

The sign promotes free parking at Boca's Town Center Mall, where parking is always free.

BOCA RATON, FL ( — Boca Raton's Town Center Mall is owned by Simon Properties (NYSE:SPG) which owns major shopping malls nationwide, but signs posted throughout the mall raise questions as to whether Simon nationally has any idea what actually happens at its malls locally.

The promotion shown above promotes free parking at Boca Raton's Town Center Mall for shoppers who spend at least $500.

This would be a great deal if not for the fact that parking is already free at the mall.

In fact, with the exception of very optional valet parking which runs $5 at certain department stores, there is absolutely no paid parking at Town Center Mall. None. You couldn't pay if you wanted to. There are thousands of spaces. Not one of them has a meter, requires a ticket or needs validation. This is true whether you spend $500 or nothing.

However, this sign is seen in multiple locations throughout the mall, suggesting that Simon's national management team is unaware of what happens in its parking lots locally. While this normally would simply be a humorous example of poor corporate oversight, Boca Raton's Town Center Mall parking lot is the scene of a carjacking that led to the still unsolved murder of Randi Gorenberg in 2007.
