FLOOD: Delray Woman Drives Into Lake, Drowns

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has identified the woman who drowned in her car this morning as Elsa Marquez, 56, of Peach Way in Delray Beach.

Marquez was heading eastbound on Heritage Park Way around 7:50 — approaching Via Flora which was completely under water. According to investigators, Marquez drove her Toyota Rav4 through the intersection then right into the lake that's located just east of Via Flora.

The car sank. Marquez was unable to escape. Witnesses were unable to help her out of the car.

Fire Rescue divers ultimately found and retrieved Marquez from her car. She was pronounced dead at Delray Medical Center.
