Is Your Boca-area School Using ABCMouse.com? Read The Fine Print

abcmouseBOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — BocaNewsNow.com has learned that pre-schools throughout the region are adopting the online ABCMouse.Com program that parents see advertised repeatedly on kid channels like Sprout and DisneyJunior. What parents may not know — unless they read the fine print — is that ABCMouse claims ownership of any work transmitted through the website.

Here’s the fine print:

Is your child's school using ABCMouse.com? Read the fine print above.

While the site does promote a privacy policy — and promises no outside advertising to children — note that terms above specifically state: “You grant to us the non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual and cost-free right to use, copy, distribute, sell, display, transmit, publish, make derivative works of, and otherwise exploit in any manner whatsoever, your User-Generated Content…”

If you don’t want your child’s work — or potential image — to be useable by ABCMouse.Com forever, we encourage parents to ask questions of your school’s arrangement with ABCMouse.Com before logging on.
