West Boca High Slammed In US News Survey

West Boca, Olympic Heights High Schools have serious reading, math issues.

The latest US News and World Report rankings are just out. 31 percent of students at West Boca High are not proficient in reading. 28 percent of students at West Boca High are not proficient in math. The school is not ranked nationally.

At Olympic Heights, nearly 40 percent are not proficient in reading or math.

By way of comparison:

At Boca Raton Community High, 22 percent of students are not proficient in reading. 19 percent are not proficient in math. The school is ranked nationally at 579.

At Spanish River Community High, 23 percent of students are not proficient in reading. 20 percent are not proficient in math. The school is ranked 641 nationally. 45th in the State of Florida.

No Boca-area school came anywhere near the top 20 list for high schools in Florida — let alone the United States. The Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts had the best Palm Beach County showing, coming in ninth in the state and 68th nationally.

At Dreyfoos, 95 percent are proficient in reading, 90 percent proficient in math. And kids have great charisma!
