UPDATE: 2:14p Wednesday: From Fire Investigators: “This continues to be an ongoing investigation, deemed an accidental fire at this time. Approximate dollar loss is estimated at $1,000,000.”

UPDATE: 8:47a Wednesday: Investigators today will attempt to determine what happened and, potentially, why relatively new construction would burn so quickly despite a massive fire fighting response. We are awaiting word from fire investigators and hope to have an update later in the day. They have a herculean task ahead. Additionally: we have learned that the intense smoke from the fire has damaged other homes in the area, requiring at least one to remain evacuated throughout the night.

UPDATE: Official report from Fire Rescue at 10:45p — At 445pm crews responded to reports of a structure fire on the 17000 block of Grand Este Way.

Responding crews reported visible flames and smoke from the side of a large home on arrival. Firefighters entered the home and began firefighting operations.

During these operations the roof of the structure collapsed and all firefighters inside were ordered out of the structure. A head count confirmed that all firefighters were accounted for and safe.

Operations were transitioned to a defensive attack due to the instability of the structure and danger to firefighters being inside.

A joint firefighting effort between Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Delray Beach Fire Rescue brought this fire under control and extinguished it.

Two occupants were displaced by this fire and the Red Cross was contacted to assist them.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue investigators are currently on location to determine the cause of this fire.

UPDATE: The home appears to be a total loss, but fortunately there are no reports of human injury.

UPDATE: The two dogs that lived in the home at 17526 Grand Este Way are now missing as of 7:22p.

UPDATE: The homeowners are unofficially identified as Ronald and Linda Tepper, with an address of 17526 Grand Este Way. The house was purchased in 2006 for $2.25 Million.
