BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Farmer’s Table in Boca’s Wyndham hotel is, by appearance, a successful restaurant. The food is good. The service is good. The restaurant is good.
But despite good food and a good wait staff, restaurant management seems to have a problem with Open Table — the popular online reservation system.
BocaNewsNow.com has eaten at Farmer’s Table twice in the past five weeks, and both Saturday night visits yielded the same problem. An overly assertive power loving hostess proclaiming that the restaurant is running late, so an 8p reservation is going to be more like 8:30 or 8:45. She’s the sort of person who comes across like a meter maid — someone with an arrogant false sense of self-importance.
To be clear: the delay is not from a lack of waiters or waitresses. The restaurant is legitimately packed. But the failure to abide — even loosely — by a reservation makes it appear that Farmer’s Table is playing a game…offering more tables for reservations than the restaurant actually has. This could be in an attempt to push customers to the bar (an option immediately offered by the meter maid/hostess) or to make it appear that the restaurant is busier than it actually is.
Whatever the reason, it is unacceptable that an 8pm reservation wasn’t seated until 8:45, with the first food appearing at 9:28pm. For readers math challenged, the first food appeared one hour and twenty eight minutes after the confirmed Open Table reservation.
The restaurant will tell you — as a manager told us — that too many people want to sit outside. Here’s the thing. The restaurant is in a Wyndham that looks like it’s left over from the 1950s set of Mad Men. Outside room entrances. Carpet that looks like it’s left over from the Denny’s restaurant just knocked down in West Boca. To put it another way: no one really wants to eat inside a budget motel. Farmer’s Table’s selling point is the outside dining in the Wyndham’s courtyard, near the musically talented performer singing angry woman songs from the 90s. (Not a criticism, she’s really talented, with a full repertoire of angry woman songs from the 80s and 90s enjoying a resurgence in acoustically remade versions for Grey’s Anatomy).
You want to eat outside. Eating inside isn’t a draw.
And management knows this — or should know this.
So our readers should know this: if you’re planning to eat at Farmer’s Table in Boca Raton — and don’t want to sit next to the bathrooms inside — plan to add an hour to any reservation you make. Your food will be good. But whether it’s worth the wait is up to you.
