BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A body was found inside a car in the Coral Springs/Parkland area. The Broward Sheriff’s Office shared these details with BocaNewsNow.com.

According to investigators, around 11 a.m. on April 1, Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a vehicle in a canal near the intersection of Pine Island Road and Nob Hill Road. BSO deputies, Coral Springs Fire Rescue, Coral Springs Dive Team and BSO’s Dive Team responded to the scene. Upon arrival, a fully submerged vehicle was observed in a canal behind a residential community. The Coral Springs Dive Team entered the water and discovered a 2021 Honda Accord, with a deceased individual, Dilton Florezel Lai, inside. BSO Dive Team then resumed the recovery and pulled the vehicle and driver from the canal. BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit took the lead on the investigation.

The preliminary investigation reveals that at approximately 4:37 a.m., Lai was traveling northwest on Pine Island Road when he failed to stop at the T-shaped intersection at Nob Hill Road. For unknown reasons, Lai drove over the raised curb, into the grass and launched over and into the canal. The vehicle became fully submerged and was discovered later that morning.

The crash remains under investigation.
