BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — One person is dead and an investigation is underway after a car was found in a canal in West Boca Raton — with a body inside. The car — and body — were found behind Sandalfoot Squire Apartments at 9280 SW 3rd Street. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue issued a statement with details to BocaNewsNow.com:
“At 12:34 this afternoon, PBCFR Units were dispatched to the 9200 block of SW 3rd St in western Boca Raton for a car in canal. An upside-down vehicle was spotted in a canal. It is unknown how long the car had been in the water.
PBCFR put rescue divers in the water and removed one person from the vehicle. That person was pronounced dead by paramedics on scene. PBCFR divers also searched the car’s surrounding area and found no other people.”
BocaNewsNow.com has learned that the rescue operation was huge. At least 13 units were dispatched to the scene including the dive team. It was not immediately clear if someone saw the vehicle enter the water, or noticed a vehicle in the water and then called 911. We’ll update once we receive more information from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office which is now investigating the deadly incident.
