According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office:

after 2: 00 pm, deputies responded to a shooting in the 5000 block of Palm Ridge Blvd, Delray.

What we know so far is a male living in the home was threatened by three male individuals. A black vehicle with three occupants pulled up to the residence for a short time then left. The males all of sudden appeared in the back of the home. The male inside the home felt threatened by the suspects and fired at them striking one in the arm. The males fled in an unknown direction. A short time later all three males appeared at Delray Medical Center. All three males are currently in custody. Charges are pending.

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Division and Crime Scene Investigators are currently en route to the scene and hospital to investigate further.

The inaugural class members of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University have entered their third year of medical school and are headed to seven South Florida hospitals to begin their clinical clerkships. Following two years of rigorous instruction, hands-on training and shadowing physicians, these students will now focus on developing their clinical skills and learning to take responsibility for patient care under close supervision of community physicians and affiliated hospitals.

Year-three clerkship sites for FAU’s medical school are Bethesda Hospital East, Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Delray Medical Center and West Boca Medical Center in Palm Beach County; Cleveland Clinic Florida, Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Broward County; as well as numerous affiliated clinical sites and private physician offices.

“This is a crucial and momentous time of growth in the development of every physician,” said David J. Bjorkman, M.D., M.S.P.H., dean of FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. “Our students are going to approach the hospital wards replete with the knowledge they have gained and will be tasked with the responsibility of applying that knowledge to the care of patients. This is a very proud moment for our new medical school.”

The clinical clerkships include internal medicine, surgery, radiology, emergency medicine (ER), critical care, anesthesia, pathology, geriatrics, pediatrics, gynecology/obstetrics and psychiatry. The third- year orientation began on May 6 in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine with a two-week transition that covered various topics such as scrub training for surgery, working with medical translators, case presentations and hospital site orientations. During week two of transition, students were introduced to core clinical concepts in pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, internal medicine, surgery, geriatrics, and psychiatry. Orientation sessions at the hospitals began on May 7 and ran through May 17. During orientation, students had the opportunity to meet with clerkship directors and administrators and acclimate themselves to the clinical setting and the academic rigor of the clerkship experience. The third year officially began on May 20 and is followed by two 24-week core clerkships, each of which includes an orientation that prepares students with information and skills needed in the specific rotation.

“As a community based medical school we depend on our affiliated hospitals and nearly 1,000 affiliated physicians in the community who serve as mentors and teachers to help implement our innovative curriculum,” said Sarah Wood, M.D., director of the year-three curriculum in FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. “We are truly grateful and appreciative of the support we have received from our affiliated hospitals, the clerkship directors and our affiliated physicians.”

The medical students will work with the same patients and mentors throughout their clinical clerkships to provide continuity of care in clinical training in the clerkship year.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Former WPTV-TV Channel 5 weather guy Rob Lopicola remains in the Palm Beach County jail nearly a year after his arrest on several child sex charges. The one time staple of South Florida television continues to be unable to post $130,000 bond.

Arrestees typically must post ten percent — in this case $13,000 — if an agreement is reached with a bondsman.

As we first reported following his July 9th arrest:

Lopicola is charged with “lewd or lascivious battery,” “lewd or lascivious conduct,” “computer pornography and child exploitation,” and “unlawful sexual activity with a minor.”

Police allege that he engaged in unlawful sexual contact with minors — at least two young men who were 15 and 17 at the time. It is also alleged that Lopicola, 42, performed oral sex on a 15 year old male in Boca Raton.

You can read the graphic text messages that prosecutors claim he sent, as well as the affidavit of probable cause that led to his arrest. U.S. Marshals were involved with his arrest — the alleged text messages were sent over state lines.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — It is any driver's worst nightmare. A driver — allegedly like Rocco Defilippis — in the car behind you, next to you or in front of you on St. Andrews Blvd.

That's where police stopped the 44-year-old Lake Azure Way homeowner and charged him with a laundry list of offenses before shuttling him off to the Palm Beach County Jail — in an effort to keep the roads in Boca a bit safer.

According to jail records, Boca Raton Police charged Defilippis with one count of DUI and three counts of narcotics possession. Police say he had Adderral and Aprazolam in his possession, but apparently no prescription. He refused to submit to a breathalyzer or other alcohol test.

Defilippis spent several hours in jail before bonding out.

His court date is pending.

Rescuers arriving on the scene just after the first call at 5:37 found the child had been pulled from the pool and was awake and crying.

The child was rushed to West Boca Medical Center where treatment continued early Sunday evening.

It is unclear whether the child was in the pool unsupervised. There is no lifeguard at the Boca Falls pool. Keycard access is required to enter the facility.

This is the second near drowning in South Palm Beach County Sunday afternoon.

As we first reported, another child was pulled from a pool on Calibre Court — south of Palmetto Park Road on Powerline — around 1:30pm. That child was also rushed to West Boca Medical Center but was responsive, crying and awake.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue tells BocaNewsNow.com that rescuers rushed to the scene in the 22000 block of Calibre Court at 1:27pm. First responders found a “male infant that had fallen in the pool and was now out.”

The child was crying, awake and rushed to West Boca Medical Center where treatment continues this afternoon.

Calibre Court is south of Palmetto Park on Powerline Road.

This comes just days after two women drove their car into a lake in nearby Mission Bay. They escaped without injuries.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — A woman picking up her child at La Petite Academy off Glades Road in West Boca inexplicably left her purse and cellphone on the front passenger seat when she went to retrieve her child, only to return minutes later and find the window shattered and wallet and cellphone gone.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office tells BocaNewsNow.com that the woman, “Stacie,” reported the smash and grab in the middle of the day — and that police were unable to find the stolen property or develop a suspect description.

Thieves routinely target daycare and preschool locations throughout the area as they are often easy targets — parents frequently leave valuables in plain view when they pick up or drop off their kids.

Police tell us that the thieves use stolen credit cards at gas pumps which only require a home zip code — information easily obtained from a stolen drivers license.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — He is not the alleged iPhone thief who targeted a woman pushing a stroller with babies at Boca's Town Center Mall, but police have charged a man in connection with several iPhone thefts throughout the area.

According to police:

Detectives with the Boca Raton Police Services Department have been investigating a number of recent iPhone thefts where the suspect walks up to an unsuspecting victim sitting at an outside table, grabs the device and runs. Two of the three incidents happened on April 23rd and May 5th at the Starbucks located at 2200 West Glades Road, the third took place May 7th at the Starbucks located at 2521 West Glades Road. In all three cases the victim was seated outside and placed their iPhone on the table.

On Tuesday, May 14th, Detectives at the Boca Raton Police Department received a call from a colleague at the Delray Beach Police Department who said they had just arrested two males in connection with a stolen iPhone incident in their city. One of the suspects, Chip Buck, told detectives that he and William Pina met at New Beginnings, a rehab center in Delray Beach. He said they both learned about stealing iPhones and selling them for money from a fellow rehab patient. He said they would then use the money to buy drugs.

In each incident, Buck said Pina and he would drive in Pina’s Silver Acura with Pennsylvania tags. They would take turns walking around the outside of Starbucks. When they saw a phone sitting on a table, they would grab it, run and then jump in their car. Buck said they would then sell the phone to someone in Delray Beach.

Buck was charged by Boca Raton Police with three counts of Grand Theft, three counts of Conspiracy, and one count of Robbery by Sudden Snatching. The investigation continues into other similar cases.

Participants unite in a symbolic event to show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful and productive.

“We are honored to have cancer survivors from our community, along with family and friends, participate in this celebration of life after a cancer diagnosis,” says Darci McNally, Director of Multimodality Clinics at LCI. “Again this year, participants will be able to showcase their creativity and paint a tile to add to our expanding Wall of Hope.”

The Wall of Hope began prior to the opening of the Harvey & Phyllis Sandler Pavilion. Cancer survivors, their families and clinical staff had the opportunity to design a tile to be included on a wall in the Cancer Center’s first floor. During Survivors Day events tiles are created and participants are able to leave their own legacy at LCI.
