FedEx Driver Helps Thwart Home Invasion, Palm Beach Cops Shoot Suspect

LAKE WORTH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — A FedEx (NYSE:FDX) driver stopped by a frantic woman called 911 to report a possible home invasion robbery, setting into motion an incredible chain of events that led to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Deputies shooting a suspect, arresting another, and quite possible saving the life of a family.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Deputy Involved Shooting
On Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at approximately 1:45 pm, PBSO received a 911 call from a Federal Express driver in 2900 block of Via Vizcaya, Lake Worth. The Federal Express driver stated a female flagged him down stating two males just broke into her residence at 2938 Via Vizcaya, Lake Worth. Seconds later, a second 911 call came in from a male, inside the residence, stating that two armed suspects broke into his residence and he believes his family has been taken hostage. Deputies were immediately dispatched to the home.
When deputies arrived they heard loud voices and banging coming from the back of the residence. As the deputy approached the back of the residence he was confronted by a male wearing black holding something close to his body. Deputy gave verbal commands stating “let me see your hands” the subject did not comply, the deputy again gave verbal commands “let me see your hands” at that time the suspect turned towards the deputy the deputy fearing for his life fired his service weapon striking the suspect in the lower torso.
The suspect was transported to Delray Medical Center where he is expected to survive.
A second suspect was found inside the house. He voluntarily gave himself up to deputies.
We are still in the preliminary stages of this investigation. Detectives are in the process of getting a search warrant to enter the residence.
PBSO Deputy is currently on paid administrative leave with pay.
