The American Board, a non-profit, non-partisan organization, is holding a workshop at the YMCA on Palmetto Circle to help professionals and others who dream of transitioning into a teaching career make that dream a reality.

Attendees will learn what to expect in a career as a teacher and receive advisement on a personalized path to certification.
Florida Teacher Certification Specialist Lauren Schubel will lead the event. Sessions begin Thursday, August 23 at 10:30 am and 12 pm at the Peter Blum Family YMCA, 6631 Palmetto Circle South in Boca Raton. Each session will last roughly an hour and will include an introductory presentation, group Q&A period and end with a private counseling session for each attendee. The event is free and open to the public.
“Anyone with a bachelor’s degree can become a full-time teacher within a year as long as they plan the right path.” Schubel said. “We are searching for people who have real-life experience and want to apply that experience in the classroom.”

The American Board
The American Board is a state approved teacher certification non profit that certifies career changers, substitute teachers, paraprofessionals and out-of-field teachers. Founded in 2001 via a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the American Board’s focus is building rural communities through education and employment.
