WELLINGTON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — A horse groomer is dead this afternoon following a horrific accident on a polo field in Wellington.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office tells us that 26-year-old Jose Calverio — a paid horse groomer for a professional polo player — was taking a horse from the field when he ran behind another horse “spooking” it.

Police say the other horse “kicked out,” hitting Jose and knocking him unconscious. He was airlifted to Delray Medical Center by Trauma Hawk where he was pronounced dead.

No charges are pending, although OSHA has been notified and will conduct a workplace investigation to determine whether proper safety measures were followed.
