BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — The annual Memory Walk to benefit Alzheimer support in the greater Boca Raton area is set for November 3rd.

Florida Atlantic University’s Caring Hearts Auxiliary of the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center will host the eighth annual “Keep Memories Alive — Exercise Your Mind” walk affair on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 9 a.m. at the Town Center at Boca Raton, 6000 Glades Road, Boca Raton.
“The hard work of our Caring Hearts Auxiliary enables the Center to continue state-of-the art, evidence-based programs and services that are so important to families living with memory disorders,” said Dr. María Ordóñez, D.N.P., A.R.N.P.-B.C., interim director of the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center. “We are deeply appreciative and know that every dollar raised counts.”
Cutler Altier, CEO and president of Altier Jewelers, has experienced the pain and tragedy of Alzheimer’s – his grandfather and founder of the company, Joseph Altier, passed away last year from the disease. As the disease progressed, the senior Altier spent several years as participant at the Center. Cutler, his brother, Will, and his grandmother Marjorie, are honorary chairs of this year’s walk.
“Marjorie, Will, Cutler and the extended Altier family represent what the Keep Memories Alive Walk is all about,” said Terry Fedele, Caring Hearts Auxiliary Board president, and co-chair of the event with Board members Morgan Green and Debbie Lindstrom. “The Memory and Wellness Center provides an active and secure place for families to bring loved ones who are experiencing memory loss, and the caregiver support programs have a positive impact on life at home. We are so grateful for Presenting Sponsor Bobby Campbell and Honorary Ambassador Christine E. Lynn’s unending generosity and are now honored to have the Altiers as part of this year’s event.”
The Memory and Wellness Center averages 16,000 visits per year and offers a wide range of services and programs to individuals with mild to moderate memory disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Construction is underway on a 5,000-square-foot extension to the adult day center. The extension, which will be connected to the current adult day center via a covered walkway, is expected to be completed in late 2013.
In January 2013, the adult day center was the first in Florida to be named a “Specialized Alzheimer’s Services Center” by Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration’s Division of Health Quality Assurance.
