BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — We don’t know if Donald Trump has ever eaten at Boca’s Seasons 52, but we’re pretty sure he’d call the service Bigly Bad (or Big League bad, if you’re in the camp who believes he’s saying ‘big league.’)
Political speak aside, there’s no other way to describe the Darden Restaurant chain’s Boca location. A visit Sunday evening revealed a hostess who said she’d bring kid’s menus in just a moment but then was too busy yucking it up with her coworkers to be bothered even 10 minutes later. A waitress took 12 minutes to visit the table after being seated, then never returned.
The waitress ultimately assigned the table proclaimed that bread now carries a $2.90 up charge, then inexplicably had it delivered after the meals arrived.
Overall, the service was slow, the workers aloof.
The atmosphere at Boca’s Seasons 52 is something like a scene out of “On Golden Pond” mixed with “Cocoon.” You might think that the guests on this Halloween Eve were dressed as Lily Pulitzer — post mortem — but no, they weren’t wearing costumes and truly were breathing. To put it a different way: it’s often been said that Boca Raton is a mix of “newlyweds and nearly deads.” Seasons 52 clientele seems to fall far more in the second category. The only thing missing was Frank Sinatra on a PA system.
The food was fine. Nothing to write home about, but nothing that really merits a complaint. If you’ve eaten some of the better fare on first or business class on dinner flights, you’re familiar with the genre. Looks decent. Leans healthy/organic. And magically fits together in a space roughly 8×12.
If you carry the American Express Platinum card or certain Amex business cards, note that there is almost always a promotion for $20 off your meal of $50 or more. The fact that the promo seemingly permanently exists speaks volumes, and tends to validate everything written above.
When the service doesn’t bring in customers, and the food isn’t so stellar that lines are long, offer a discount.
Darden Restaurants (NYSE: DRI) the Orlando based company that brings you Olive Garden. Darden also brings you Yard House in Mizner which has its own issues. But for Seasons 52, we have to wonder if the Boca location, like so many of its customers, is closer to death than life. It’s often a sign of poor management when service is allowed to suffer. And poor management is often a sign that corporate doesn’t care much anymore.
