BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Source: FAU) — Florida Atlantic University’s Department of Music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present several holiday concerts throughout the month of December.
The first is the holiday classic Handel’s “Messiah,” on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at www.fauevents.com or by calling 800-564-9539. Conducted by Patricia P. Fleitas, FAU’s presentation of Handel’s “Messiah” features past and current FAU choral students and faculty.
Then on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m., the Florida Wind Symphony Jazz Orchestra will present “An Ellington Nutcracker” in the University Theatre. A holiday concert tradition, the orchestra will perform the complete “Nutcracker Suite” as arranged for jazz ensemble by the incomparable Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, along with other holiday favorites. Also on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m., FAU’s choral groups will present the Madrigal Dinner at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Boca Raton. Now in its seventh year, the FAU Madrigal Dinner brings the courtly tradition of pageantry, entertainment, a savory feast and extraordinary music to life. FAU students delight and entertain, and guests are invited to join the fun and dress in period costumes if they choose. Single tickets are $100 (which includes a $55 tax-deductible gift) and tables of eight are $1,000 (including a $640 tax-deductible gift).
