Two Year Old Killed, Five Year Old Critical In I-95 Crash

UPDATE: 11am Tuesday, April 30, 2019: FHP reports that the five year boy has died.

UPDATE: 10:17pm SUNDAY, APRIL 28, 2019: FHP has added the following facts: The female driver is NOT the mother of the children. The children were NOT in car seats but it is unclear if they were in seatbelts. The deceased 2 year old is Akeena Avanel Bennett. The five year old boy on life support is Keanna Ariel Bennett. All are from Deerfield Beach.

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Florida Highway Patrol says a Sunday morning crash on southbound I-95 left one child dead, another in critical condition, and two adults in serious condition.

According to FHP, a Toyota Corolla driven by Deerfield’s Ruby Rashida, 34, collided with a 2019 Kia Forte driven by 26 year old Zachary Schott of Illinois. A 2 year old girl in Rashida’s car was killed, a five year old boy in the same vehicle is on life support. Police say NEITHER CHILD WAS WEARING RESTRAINT DEVICES.

The crash remains under investigation. It is unclear at this point who was at fault.
