DORIAN: Palm Beach County Emergency Management Statement

hurricane News

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — Palm Beach County Emergency Management has initiated its announcement system for what is right now Tropical Storm Dorian. As of 1:45pm Wednesday:

Palm Beach County Emergency Management is monitoring Tropical Storm Dorian.  The next 36-48 hours will be critical; we cannot rule out hurricane impacts should the forecast place our county in a watch or warning area, therefore Palm Beach County will consider protective actions such as:

o   evacuation orders for those residing in manufactured homes,

o   determination of sheltering options

o   determination of levels of service

People with special medical needs should register for our Special Needs Program by calling (561) 712-6400 or visiting our website www.readypbc.org.

If conditions should worsen, look for either a Tropical Storm Watch or Warning or a Hurricane Watch or Warning to be issued for Palm Beach County.

If a TROPICAL STORM WATCH is issued, it means that sustained winds of 39 to 73 mph are possible within the specified area within 48 hours in association with a tropical, subtropical, or post-tropical cyclone. This watch should trigger your family’s disaster plan, and protective measures should be initiated especially those actions that require extra time such as securing a boat, securing loose objects on your patio or lawn, etc.

If a TROPICAL STORM WARNING is issued, it means that sustained winds of 39 to 73 mph are expected somewhere within the specified area within 36 hours in association with a tropical, subtropical, or post-tropical cyclone. Once this warning has been issued, your family should be in the process of completing protective actions and deciding the safest location to be during the storm.

If a HURRICANE WATCH is issued, it means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area. The hurricane watch is issued 48 hours in advance of the anticipated onset of tropical-storm-force winds. This watch should trigger your family’s disaster plan, and protective measures should be initiated especially those actions that require extra time such as securing a boat, securing loose objects on your patio or lawn, etc.

If a HURRICANE WARNING is issued, it means that hurricane conditions are expected within the warning area. The hurricane warning is issued 36 hours in advance of the anticipated onset of tropical-storm-force winds. Once this warning has been issued, your family should be in the process of completing protective actions and deciding the safest location to be during the storm.
