BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you want to get rid of masks and return to a more normal lifestyle, you may want to tell your friends and neighbors to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The latest report from the Florida Department of Health reveals that less than half of the eligible Palm Beach County population has been fully vaccinated against the deadly virus.

Official census numbers suggest that roughly 20 percent of the Palm Beach County population is 18 or under. Using that as a guide — and we stress, it’s a rough number — there are at least 1,100,000 people 18 and older in PBC. Of those adults, only 462,538 have been completely vaccinated, according to the Florida Department of Health. And to make it worse, there is no guarantee that everyone vaccinated in Palm Beach County actually lives in Palm Beach County, suggesting the number of residents completely vaccinated is even lower. Based on these numbers, less than 43 percent of those eligible to be vaccinated are completely vaccinated in Palm Beach County.

By the numbers:

Age 16-24: 11,693 people have been fully vaccinated in Palm Beach County.

Age 25-34: 20,994 people have been fully vaccinated in Palm Beach County.

Age 35-44: 33,931 people have been fully vaccinated in Palm Beach County.

Age 45-54: 55,967 people have been fully vaccinated in Palm Beach County.

Age 75-84: 88,385 people have been fully vaccinated in Palm Beach County.

Age 85+: 35,165 people have been fully vaccinated in Palm Beach County.

By race, there is a clear discrepancy: 298,501 people who identify as “white” have been completely vaccinated in Palm Beach County. But just 24,798 people who identify as “black” have been fully vaccinated in Palm Beach County.

By gender: 263,142 people who identify as “female” have been fully vaccinated in PBC. 199,055 people who identify as “male” have been fully vaccinated in Palm Beach County.
