BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — It’s predictable as sunshine in Florida: someone dying on the first day of Lobster Mini Season. That person is a 39-year-old Pompano Beach man.

From the City of Pompano Beach in an advisory:

”At 9:36 a.m. this morning, Pompano Beach Fire-Rescue responded to a drowning located at 11 N. Ocean Boulevard. Upon firefighter’s arrival, they were told a man was diving for lobster and surfaced in distress. The patient had been taken in the boat they were diving from to the Hillsboro Inlet.

Pompano Beach paramedics met the boat at the Inlet where the patient was in cardiac arrest and CPR was in progress. Pompano Beach paramedics continued CPR and advanced life support and transported the male in critical condition to Broward Health North. The man was treated at the hospital and subsequently pronounced dead.

According to the others on the boat, the 39-year-old Pompano Beach resident was diving for lobster with another man and a female on a private 30-foot boat in approximately 25 feet of water off the Pompano Beach coast when the incident occurred.

While treating the drowning victim, the other male became distressed and was also transported to Broward Health North for evaluation.”

An investigation continues.
