BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Boca Raton resident Darren Nomberg — who relocated from Long Island — is facing a battery charge following his arrest early Tuesday morning by the Boca Raton Police Department.
According to a police report provided to BocaNewsNow.com, police responded twice to his address at 5720 Congress Avenue for domestic issues overnight.
”According to Darren,” wrote police, “when officers left after the first incident of domestic disturbance, he went back into his residence. When he went back inside, he stated he saw (his girlfriend) lying in bed with a knife to her neck. To prevent things from escalating, he stated he left the residence and went for a walk. When he returned, the victim no longer had the knife. Both parties once again got into a verbal dispute, and according to Darren he saw the victim grab a bottle of prescription medication and attempt to take in hopes of preventing her from committing suicide. As he saw her grab the bottle and bring it toward her mouth, he attempted to grab the bottle and as a result scratched her on the lip and arm.”
Police also wrote: “I then spoke to the victim (girlfriend) who stated at no point did she attempt suicide. She did confirm that she took her medication while they were arguing but it was only one pill. According to the victim, it was evident that she was not trying to commit suicide as she only removed one pill from the bottle. The sole pill was located on the bed where she and Darren got into the physical altercation. She also noted at no point did she have a knife to her neck. The victim provided a sworn recorded statement to officers stating she did not take any medication or have a knife to her neck. Pictures of her injuries were taken.”
“Based on my investigation,” wrote the investigating officer, “I determined Darren was the primary aggressor in this incident as he intentionally and willfully struck the victim causing a small laceration on her lip. Darren was subsequently charged and transported to the Palm Beach County Jail where he was left in the custody of corrections officers.”
Darren Nomberg, 43, who told police he works as a broker for David Lerner Associates, was charged with Battery. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 5:29 a.m. and released on his own recognizance after 1 p.m.
A judge during Nomberg’s first appearance ordered him to have “no violent contact with victim.” He’ll be arraigned on October 18th.
