BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton man is dead after he apparently accidentally shot himself while cleaning his gun early Wednesday morning.

Paramedics and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene in the 5700 block of Santiago Circle around 3:45 this morning. That’s in the community of “Brookhaven of Boca Raton” which is south of Palmetto Park Road and west of Military Trail.

Despite their best efforts, BocaNewsNow.com learned that the victim was pronounced dead roughly ten minutes after first responders arrived at the home.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office told BocaNewsNow.com that a gun owner was “cleaning his gun” when it accidentally fired. While we have identified the victim, we are withholding the name until the information is released officially.

There is no threat to anyone in the Brookhaven community. This was, according to police, merely an accident with deadly consequences.

UPDATE: 11:05 a.m. — PBSO just told us that this now appears to be a suicide.
