FAA: DEPARTED FORT LAUDERDALE, HEADING TO FLORIDA KEYS.

UPDATE: 2:34 p.m. — The FAA just transmitted this preliminary report to us: ”A single-engine Cessna 172 lost engine power and landed on the Haulover Inlet Bridge on Route A1A in Miami, Fla., around 1:00 p.m. local time today, striking a vehicle while landing. There were three people onboard. The aircraft departed from Fort Lauderdale International Airport with a planned destination of Key West International Airport.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide additional updates.

UPDATE: 2:19 p.m. — The Federal Aviation Administration confirms it is aware of the incident. Details pending.

There are reports of multiple injuries and a fire. It is unclear what type of plane was involved, although initial reports and images from the scene indicate it is large private plane.
Rescue sources say three are dead and at least six are injured.
Roads in the area of the scene at 10800 Collins Avenue are closed and likely will be for hours if not days. The NTSB will investigate.
