BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you are are traveling out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport this weekend, prepare to pack your patience. Airport officials say a record number of travelers are expected to pass through the airport over the next several days. With airlines already at capacity and afternoon storms again the norm, passengers are being advised to prepare for the worst.
The airport issued this advisory: “At Broward County’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), officials are forecasting more than 680,000 travelers to fly in and out between Wednesday, May 25, and Tuesday, May 31, 2022. This number mirrors pre-pandemic levels for past Memorial Day holiday seasons at FLL. The airport’s busiest travel days should be Friday, May 27, and Monday, May 30, with more than 105,000 travelers each day. Overall, FLL expects an average of 97,255 daily passengers during the seven-day holiday travel period.”
“If you plan to park at FLL, allocate extra time to get here and secure a spot among the parking garage’s 10,000-plus spaces, which could fill up during the holidays. Tap into the garages’ smart parking technology to find the closest open spot. Then, in the garage driving lanes, look at the monitors mounted to the ceiling for the number of available spaces in each aisle.”
Delta Airlines announced Thursday that it is cutting flights for the summer season — which starts now — due to staffing issues. Other airlines, including Jetblue which has a major South Florida presence, have already been cutting flights as the summer months approached.
With decreased capacity industry-wide, those experiencing canceled flights may find delays of days before they are able to rebook.
