BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A woman was rushed to an area hospital after an early morning crash involving her vehicle and a Coconut Creek police car. The woman later died.

The following is the official statement from the Broward Sheriff’s Office which is now investigating the fatal wreck:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal officer involved crash in Coconut Creek involving a Coconut Creek police officer. The crash occurred shortly before 4 a.m. near the intersection of West Sample Road and Lyons Road. Coconut Creek police officers initially responded to investigate. Margate Fire Rescue also responded, and the driver of the civilian vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. She was later pronounced deceased. Paramedics also transported the police officer involved to a local hospital with injuries listed as not life-threatening. Detectives with BSO Traffic Homicide Unit were notified and are investigating the circumstances surrounding this fatal officer involved crash. 

The westbound lanes of Sample Road between Northwest 42nd Avenue and Lyons Road are closed until further notice. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
