BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The man found suffering from a gunshot wound on Glades Road midday Friday is identified by acquaintances as Vladimir Oviedo, 52, of Hollywood, Florida.

BocaNewsNow.com obtained the name shortly after the shooting, but withheld the victim’s identity as the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigated. Detectives asked BocaNewsNow.com to withhold Oviedo’s name on Saturday for investigative reasons. While we obliged the request for 24 hours, we informed PBSO that we planned to publish the name at 4 p.m. on Sunday, barring information suggesting that it would jeopardize anyone’s safety. That information was not provided. Oviedo’s family, according to police, invoked “Marsy’s Law” which prevents law enforcement from releasing the victim’s name. It does not prevent news media from obtaining the identity of a victim from other sources.

BocaNewsNow.com has learned that Oviedo was last seen in the Boca West community around 12:30 p.m. Friday, operating a canteen truck at a construction site. Records reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com indicate that Oviedo owns the 2010 Chevy Silverado that he converted into a food truck, and ultimately crashed into the median near 7772 Glades Road. The truck is seen being towed from the scene. Someone who saw Oviedo at Boca West said he was apparently in good spirits.

“He arrives (at the job site) around noon,” said the source. “He comes every day at lunch time.”

But shortly after departing, Oviedo sustained a gunshot wound. He ran his Chevy Silverado work truck into a median on Glades near the Turnpike. He exited the vehicle and collapsed. Horrified onlookers called police. He was rushed to Delray Medical Center and sped into surgery. His condition is unclear Sunday afternoon. We do know the investigation is being handled by PBSO Homicide Detectives.

There were no bullet holes on Oviedo’s truck. It is unclear where he was shot between Boca West and 7772 Glades Road. Police continue to ask for tips. Anyone with information should call PBSO at 561-688-3000, CrimeStopers at 800-458-TIPS, or online at CrimeStoppersPBC.com.

Oviedo, according to records reviewed by BocaNewsNow.com, held a security officer license which expired in 2005. He had a few incidents with South Florida law enforcement in 2010, but has no recent record of significance. He was stopped by police for operating a vehicle without lights at night, in Monroe County, last year.

“Me and a friend of mine was taking lunch and wondering why we were hearing the ambulance sirens for so long at 12:30 to 1 p.m.,” said a worker at the site. “After 2 p.m. we started hearing people talking about it. We were shocked to find out.”
