BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The near crane collapse that closed I-95 southbound for 18 Hours, causing unprecedented delays and multi-hour commutes, is now resolved. The situation was stabilized early this morning and I-95 was officially reopened around 4 a.m.
A cherry picker slammed into the construction crane on I-95 near Broward Blvd. around 10:30 Monday morning. Two construction workers plummeted from the cherry picker to the ground. They were rushed to an area hospital as a “trauma alert.” Rescuers feared the crane, now hit by the cherry picker, was so unstable that it could collapse on I-95. The interstate was closed.
Delays started building by noon. All traffic was forced off I-95 at Oakland Park Blvd. which created gridlock on not just I-95 and Oakland Park, but feeder roads in a huge radius of the area. The I-95 delays extended for miles.
As of 5:23 a.m., all closures and detours resulting from the crane incident have been lifted. I-95 appears to be clear from Palm Beach County into Broward.
