BOYNTON BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Boynton Beach Police Officer Dennis Castro was killed early Saturday morning in a one-car crash. While the investigation continues, the Department announced mid-day Saturday that Officer Castro died.

This is the official announcement made by the police department:

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Boynton Beach Police Officer Dennis Castro, badge #905. Early this morning, Officer Castro was involved in a single vehicle car accident, while off-duty. As a result of the crash, Officer Castro sustained severe injuries, that ultimately took his life.

Officer Castro was a United States Marine Corps Veteran, who served the Boynton Beach Police Department with great dignity and pride for 14 years. He was a member of the SWAT Team, DUI Task Force, and a Traffic Homicide Investigator. Throughout his career, Officer Castro was honored by the Boynton Beach Police Department numerous times as Officer of the Month, he was voted Officer of the year in 2021 by the Palm Beach County Commission’s Victim Services and Certified Rape Crisis Center, and received numerous commendations for his exemplary service to the Boynton Beach community.

“Today is my toughest day as Chief of police,” Chief Joe DeGiulio said. “Officer Castro’s service and commitment to the Boynton Beach Police Department and to the community we serve was truly remarkable. The entire Boynton Beach Police Department is honored to have served alongside Officer Castro, who was a friend and hero to all.”

Officer Castro is survived by his wife and two children. Funeral arrangements will be announced once available. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Castro Family and his co-workers in the City of Boynton Beach.
