BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The first of two major planned traffic headaches is set for tonight as the Florida Department of Transportation closes I-95 northbound in Boca Raton. The closure will be repeated Tuesday night into Wednesday.

As we reported last week, FDOT says the closure will block I-95 northbound at Glades Road, forcing all traffic off at Glades Road and routing it out to Federal Highway, north to Yamato Road, then back to I-95. Florida Highway Patrol will be on the scene to assist confused motorists. Expect lane blockage to start before 11 p.m. each night, and then wrap up — in theory — by 5 a.m.

The closures are part of the ongoing I-95 expansion project, as well as the reconfiguration of Glades Road at the Interstate. Overhead signs will be hung during the closures which makes it too dangerous for vehicles to pass underneath. Glades Road, as we’ve reported, is being reconfigured into a diamond. Traffic will be shifted to lanes that many may find confusing once the system starts early next year. Already, signs facing in opposite directions are leading motorists to believe they were hung incorrectly.

Once the diamond system goes live, traffic moving east will actually be in lanes currently used for heading west, while traffic heading west will shift to lanes currently used for traffic heading east.
