BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — As the Diverging Diamond starts its first full day of operation, another major closure is set for tonight. The Florida Department of Transportation continues I-95 roadwork and expansion — and now the focus in Yamato and I-95.

Officially from FDOT: “All I-95 southbound lanes at SR-794/Yamato Road will be closed to traffic overnight, Tuesday, Jan. 31 for overhead sign structure installation. The first lane will close at 9 p.m., the second lane will close at 10 p.m., and all lanes will be closed by 11 p.m., reopening by 5 a.m. each morning. Traffic will be detoured via the southbound exit ramp to SR-794/Yamato Road, SR-809/Military Trail and Palmetto Park Road. FHP will be onsite to assist motorists. Wednesday, Feb. 1 will be used as a contingency night if needed.”

The closure comes after a day of chaos at the intersection of I-95 and Glades Road. The Diverging Diamond was supposed to open at 6 a.m. on Monday, but weather delays led to an opening delay. It was 3:30 p.m. by the time the new intersection went “live.” Glades Road had been closed for several days on both sides of I-95, making the area impassable.

Construction is expected to continue on I-95 in Boca Raton for quite some time. Northbound closures are expected next week. Check back — BocaNewsNow.com will update I-95 traffic delays and closure was we receive information from the Florida Department of Transportation.
