UPDATE @ 3:18 a.m. — Witnesses tell Delray Beach Police that an SUV was on the tracks as the southbound Brightline train approached. The train struck the SUV which — according to authorities — then hit a traffic light. The intersection of Lindell and Dixie is likely to remain closed into, or through, the morning commute.
DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — DEVELOPING AT 8:23 P.M. — At least two people were killed around 8 p.m. tonight when a Brightline train struck a vehicle in the area of Dixie Highway and Linton Blvd. There are 66 people on the train. No one on the train was injured.

Delray Beach Fire Rescue and Delray Beach Police are currently on the scene in the area. Sources connected to the response say that the Brightline train hit the vehicle on the train tracks. It was apparently heading southbound while a freight was heading northbound. While the Brightline train stopped south of the incident, the freight train apparently kept moving northbound.
This is a developing story and the information is very preliminary. Expect the scene to remain active well into the night.
