BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A Boca Raton luxury car dealership says it was duped out of $128,500 after it attempted to purchase a Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet from a seller in California. The deal was run through CarGurus.com. CarGurus.com is not named as a defendant.

According to a complaint just filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court, “Show Cars Boca Raton” wired money to a “john doe” using the name “Kevin Andrew Williams” in Carlsbad, California. The vehicle was brought to a dealership near Carlsbad for inspection. It passed. But that’s when something went wrong.

“Show Cars of Boca Raton” wired funds for the car — $128,500 — but the seller claims he never received the funds. The dealership inspecting the car released the vehicle. The funds were never returned.

The suit alleges that “John Doe made a false statement regarding material facts, namely that he owned the vehicle, that he was willing to sell the vehicle, and his true identity.” To this date, it is unclear where the $128,500 ended up. The suit seeks a return of the funds — although it’s unclear who the suit is actually filed against. Read the complete complaint, below.
