PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A person was apparently struck and killed by a train on the Brightline tracks in Lake Worth late Friday morning.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death that occurred around 11 a.m. It was not immediately clear why the victim was on the tracks, whether the engineer saw the victim, or whether the train could have been stopped before impact.

The train was held by authorities at the scene. No one on board was injured. While there was no initial word as to the specific train involved, we note that a midday southbound train from West Palm Beach to Miami is now canceled.

Brightline is considered to be the deadliest public transit system in the United States, as pedestrians and motorists repeatedly disregard crossing warnings — whether accidentally or purposefully. The investigation continues.
