BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Tense times early Saturday morning as a man jumped from the Deerfield Beach Pier, requiring a joint rescue operation between Boca Raton Fire Rescue and rescuers in Broward County.

The man, who sources say may have been suicidal and armed, jumped into the ocean around 6 a.m. Witnesses apparently told first responders that he was violent, or, at the very least threatening before he jumped. He then swam north towards Boca Raton.

With Boca Raton rescuers heading south and Broward County rescuers heading north, the man was located and eventually pulled to safety. First responders with knowledge of the situation suggest the man may have been having a psychological issue.

He is being treated at an area hospital. No rescuer was injured. It was not immediately clear if callers to 911 had any interaction with the man before he jumped and whether or not the man was truly armed.
