A heat advisory is again in effect for South Florida.

BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — The National Weather Service issued a new heat advisory for South Florida. The advisory is in effect as of Monday morning and continues at least through late Tuesday. It is likely the advisory will be extended throughout the week.

While the official high will be in the 90s, the “real feel” temperature will peak near 110 degrees, making it dangerous to be outside for extended periods of time. For those new to South Florida, this is not normal. It is important to bring water with you whenever possible, and call for help if you feel symptoms of heat stroke. The following is the official advisory issued Monday morning.

* WHAT… Heat index values up to 110.

* WHERE… Portions of southeast, southern and southwest Florida.

* WHEN… Until 7 PM EDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS… Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
