12:51 p.m. — The situation has been resolved and normal airport operations are resuming. BSO issued this statement to BOCANEWSNOW.com: “At approximately 10:34 a.m., Broward County Regional Communications received a call reporting a suspicious unattended bag located in Terminal 1 at Fort Lauderdale – Hollywood International Airport. BSO Airport district deputies and BSO Bomb Squad Unit responded. Deputies secured the area and the upper level of Terminal 1 was evacuated as a precaution. The Bomb Squad Unit conducted their investigation and at around 12:30 p.m. the all clear was given.”
UPDATE 11:55 a.m. — The upper roadway is now closed.
BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) (10:41 a.m.) — An evacuation is underway at the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport as of 11:30 a.m. Sunday. The terminal affected is Terminal 1 — primarily used by Southwest Airlines and United Airlines.
According to the airport: “The upper-level check-in area of Terminal 1 has been temporarily evacuated due to an ongoing security-related law enforcement investigation. if traveling through T1 today, please check with your airline for updated flight status. Use lower-level for T1 drop offs.”
BOCANEWSNOW.com has learned a suspicious package was found in the terminal. The bomb squad is on the scene.
No other part of the airport is affected by the situation. Witnesses say the terminal was evacuated. Flights at Terminal 1 are being impacted, but it’s not immediately clear by how much. This is a developing story.
