BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — A reminder to parents and anyone who drives by a Palm Beach County public school: the school year starts in just days. The first day of school for public school students is Thursday, August 10th. Teachers are set to report on Monday.

Every year at this time, police departments across Palm Beach County increase patrols by schools — and offer very, very little leniency when it comes to speeding. Merely five miles over the limit in a school zone is enough for 3 points on your license. If you’re driving 15 m.p.h or more over the limit in a school zone, you’re looking at 4 points. There are no warnings for speeding in a school zone in Florida. Twelve points in a year in Florida means your license gets suspended.

Students who are enrolled in private schools in Palm Beach County and Broward County have a slightly longer summer. Most private schools start closer to the end of the month. We note that private school students in Florida are also still allowed to learn facts — like how babies are made, what the word “gay” means, and that slavery was bad.

The first holiday for public school students is September 4th for Labor Day.
