UPDATE @ 6:18 p.m. — The situation is improving.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Police activity in the area of the Lantana Toll Plaza on the Northbound Florida Turnpike is causing huge delays that stretch into Boynton Beach as of 5:10 p.m. Thursday.

Traffic cameras show the police situation just before the tolls. An unmarked van and two FHP police vehiclse have stopped a pickup truck. It is unclear whether it’s a simple moving violation or something more. What is clear is that the traffic situation is bad and worsening, with cars stuck in the narrow construction zone with nowhere to go.

It was not immediately clear how long the backup is expected to last. Aside from exiting at Glades Road or Atlantic, and using U.S. 441 to avoid the slowdown, there are no great options to circumnavigate the situation.
