Our “Boca Rudeton” Reporting Led To New Publix Policy. How About Whole Foods, Costco, Trader Joe’s, Lindburger’s, Joseph’s, Restaurants?

BY: BOCA RUDETON DESK | BocaNewsNow.com
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Our year-long reporting on shoppers violating FDA mandates by bringing dogs into Publix led to a chain-wide reaffirmation of the federal and state anti-pet policy. Publix is now largely enforcing rules that have been in effect nationwide for years: only trained service dogs are allowed in a supermarket. Anyone bringing a pet — or so-called “emotional support animal” — into a supermarket or indoor restaurant is violating federal law.
While the copycats at the Palm Beach Post and the Sun Sentinel pondered in print why Publix was suddenly enforcing the rules, our readers and contributors know that BocaNewsNow.com — through our exclusive “Boca Rudeton” feature — was behind the effort to keep dogs out of stores meant for humans.
“It was you guys,” said a local Publix manager. “Corporate couldn’t take you publishing photos every week of rude shoppers bringing their gross dogs into our stores. Thank you for putting on the pressure.”
But shoppers in Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, and much of South Florida continue to see shoppers with dogs in other stores — including Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Costco, and more — leading them to ask why federal mandates aren’t being enforced there. Dogs are still being seen in some Publix as of just days ago.

While Publix is now prominently displaying signs telling those self-absorbed shoppers that their pets are not allowed, some continues to violate the rules and bring their pets inside. The unsanitary habit, according to sources within Publix, may lead to police involvement. Managers have apparently been told that that they may “trespass” shoppers who refuse to leave if they bring a pet inside.

It’s not just Publix, however. The FDA mandates that animals remain outside at restaurants. They are acceptable at outdoor tables, but never inside — unless it’s an officially trained service animal that provides a specific function. An “emotional support animal” is NOT a service animal. At Lindburgers in Delray Beach, a reader wonders why this dog is anywhere near a table. We wonder who gets what appears to be a Margarita at Lindburgers, but that’s another question for another time. We’ve also received several photos of dogs in Joseph’s Italian Market, Costco, Trader Joe’s, and more.

Share your thoughts about dogs in markets and restaurants below. If you have a photo of someone with a dog in a restaurant or supermarket in South Palm Beach County, share it with us here through our new Boca Rudeton Animal Reporting System. We remind our readers that there is no expectation of privacy in a public place. Don’t want to be seen here? Don’t be rude here! Boca Rudeton™ is a trademark of Metro Desk Media, LLC.

I find your zeal in following people and publishing photos of them and their dogs disturbing. Why don’t you practice some real journalism instead of stalking and harassing people with dogs? Like people with guns. The dogs aren’t bothering anyone but people with guns are a real danger to others . Who wants to go into a store with gun wielding killers? Or what about those who walk around stores on speaker phone? Annoying other patrons? Now dog owners will not go to Publix because of you. They’ll lose business. There are crimes that happen in Boca that no one ever finds out about as if they don’t happen, why not focus on something serious.
-
The Karens have taken to pursue dog owners. Unfortunately Publix bowed to them. I agree that reports should go after criminals not dogs and their owners. I will try to avoid shopping at Publix because of this policy.
-
Albert, it’s against the law, what part of this don’t you seem to understand? Only service dogs are allowed & almost all I’ve seen wear a vest saying they are service animals. You seem kind of entitled to think that dog owners can do whatever they please but that’s just not the case. Leave your animals at home & if you can’t be without them to go shopping, have someone else do it for you. The Karen’s are really people like yourselves who feel you are above the laws in place!! We’ve had enough of folks like you! Supermarkets and restaurants are for humans…NOT FOR DOGS!!!
-
Hooray!! Publix is great and the best unless you enjoy inferior stores
-
that’s great to hear – tell all of your Ahole friends also that bring their horses to Publix – leave your mangy dog at home and quit stinking up South Florida
-
Oh please. How allergic can you be to dogs that someone shopping in the store with their dog is going to get you sick. It’s not like you are going into someone’s home where there are dogs hanging out there and jumping on you. I’m allergic to cats. Badly allergic and unless they are all around me in a place where they live I have no reaction. I also truly believe that people who dislike dogs have something wrong with them. Dogs never cause a problem in any store I’ve ever seen them in and they are much better behaved than many of the people who shop at Publix. They’ve pick up fruits etc and ru. Them around etc. and put them back, or decide they don’t want an item and leave in it a place far from where it belongs very often things that need refrigeration. They have kids who are out of control or people arguing and complaining about a sale price that no longer exists. People who take their merry time paying at the register rather than have their card or money ready, searching their wallets for the right card. Or their checkbook, or when paying cash they only begin to get it organized after the sale has been rung up. Then the ones who take a long time trying to count out the exact change or paying for the items with all change. This while everyone else in what has become a long line.I could go on and on. How about the parking lot where people are so lazy that they can’t walk a few feet and instead leave carts in the middle of a parking spot. rather than walk a few feet where the cart won’t make it possible for another car to park.
How about making an issue about those things rather than picking on dogs who don’t bother anyone.
I feel sorry for you.
Pamela Maraziti -
All I can say is
Seen a dog deficate in a Boca Publix last week
Owner made minimal attempt to clean up -
Good by no one will miss you. There are enough filthy markets in bad neighborhoods, go shop there.
-
Please keep your dog in your house ! I don’t need dogs walking and liking the food that I buy at Publix, this is a great supermarket and now because they enforce rules , all of you are crying !! . There is a law for everything in our nation and we laws for humans and animals. So stay home and have your groceries delivered to you so we don’t have to put up with your dogs .
-
Where open food is displayed, is no place for pets
-
If your dog is not a service dog it does not belong in the store or a restaurant or in a bar there’s no reason for this that’s logical bringing your dog to a bar if you’re drinking buddy I don’t think so mostly distressed people should seek help as far as dogs being in Publix I don’t want dog hair in my food that I’m getting at the cafeteria keep Fido home
-
Albert, you and dog owners are the Karens.
-
The Morons of the world have lost their minds. Not even a “service animal” belongs anywhere where food is sold. Dogs in this country are treated like cats were in Egypt.🤢. But it’s the Morons of the world who have taken over👿
-
I am glad you wont be shopping in Publix with your pet, unsanitary and against the law. So, you dont get your way and complain.
-
Karens? Albert you are confused. Publix, Karen wont miss you. And we won’t miss the dogs.
-
-
Lily. It’s liberals like you who have no idea about FL culture. People aren’t coming into places wielding guns. It’s selfish people who don’t care about others who might be allergic to animals or better yet don’t want freakin dog hair on their drinks or food. You are out of touch with reality. Good work by Boca News to cover this each week
-
Dude, this isn’t or left or right issue so why bring it up in the first place? All people need to follow the law and keep animals out of stores & restaurants…period. This isn’t a political issue so don’t know why you even had to go there. Tells me so much about your character…or lack of any!
Folks, if your animal isn’t a true service animal, please leave them at home, where they belong! -
Lily’s real name is……KAREN
-
Agree with you 100%. I’m a dos owner and would never bring my dog into a restaurant or supermarket. That’s todays problem with these liberals and wokes they want to change everything in the world.
-
I have seen this page many times and never commented but the excuse of allergies or dog hair is not really a fair argument. I am allergic to many perfumes and have has many issues with people being dirty in places and their kids. Now this whole issue with service dogs is a problem. I have a medically trained service dog that I take almost everywhere with me. He has traveled to different countries and all over the US. He is 9 and has been trained since he was 5 months old and has actually saved my life in times of medical crisis. I get dirty looks and restaurants telling me all the time that my dog is not allowed to come in or sit with me. I carry ALL my paperwork and proof that he is a legitimate service dog and despite the fact that places cannot ask, I am happy to show it to them. These pictures don’t depict if these dogs are legitimate or not. It’s frustrating for those of us with real issues that this is happening but I also can’t assume that these dogs are not trained service animals. Not all illnesses are visible. If I were to see a picture of me with my dog on this site, I would be furious. Does this site ask if they are trained?
And understanding people have allergies or think dogs are not clean, well again, I have many allergies to things I can’t tell people not to use and my dog is probably cleaner than most humans I see these days. So I get both points but please don’t assume that some of these may be true service animals that their owners desperately need. -
I completly agree about supermarket and restaurants are fir people and NOT FOR DOGS. I have dof but I don’t my dog inside for respect people. No one wants dogs hair in drinks abd foods and worse dogs liking fruits and others food..
-
Do people even realize that a trained service dog is not required to wear a vest, or have any paperwork identifying it as a legitimate service animal? I have a trained diabetic support dog. He is always perfectly behaved. He is always clean and groomed. I choose to use a vest with him to avoid people giving me an attitude. Doesn’t always work. Most people are nice and I answer questions about him politely. But some people are so rude. They assume that he’s just a pet. When I correct them, they insist that I must be lying because they “know” service dogs can only be German shepherds or Labrador retrievers. They are wrong. A service dog can be any breed, from a Chihuahua to a Rottweiler, or any breed in between. I’ve had people try to kick my dog as we walk by. That ended poorly for the gentleman, as I accidentally knocked him to the ground with my shopping cart. Oops. My dog has saved my life on multiple occasions. So I really have no problem defending him, as he is my life line, it’s more like self defense. I will absolutely stand my ground in his defense. Take that any way you choose, but tread lightly. There are many people who feel as I do about their dogs. Have a blessed day.
-
Keep your damn dogs at home I don’t want that stories restaurants or anywhere else keep them in your house I don’t want to go shopping and see a dog I don’t want to go to a restaurant and see a dog outside or inside keep your damn dogs home in your house
-
I am a liberal, but the law is the law. As an animal lover and owner, I still don’t want dog hair in my food or drink, nor fleas/dander. Leave Fido at home. BTW it also applies to guns. Lately it has become the OK Corral.
-
I overheard a rude man talking loudly on speaker phone about how many guns he had and how many rounds of ammo and mentioned his safe in his center console. I’m pretty sure he was carrying a gun. I don’t want to be anywhere where people can bring guns in. That’s a danger and a mrnace to society not dogs. Would you take photos of the gun carriers? That would help us know who the potential killers are. I think Publix and other stores should post signs forbidding guns. We have the right to be safe from killers while shopping. Ever see the nasty people coughing and sneezing ? That’s how disease spreads not from dogs.
-
-
We don’t want to see your stinky ass dogs. And if you need them to be with you everywhere then you are a mental case.
Go get professional help you idiots. -
Taking pictures of tax paying citizens doesn’t make our city safer. Half the people don’t even wear shoes in Publix let alone take showers. Get a life or a JOB. People with jobs don’t have time for the perfecting Publix experiences. Mask up if your scared
-
That’s not the point Brad. These folks need to follow the law and leave their animals at home! Only a certified service animal is allowed which again is something that I don’t agree with. If you can’t leave home without your animal, then stay home. Don’t break any laws. It really is that simple!!
-
-
I agree.leave the dogs & their owners alone. I would rather see someone with a dog than some of the morons that live here. Especially the idiots who are running this state
-
Stuart, that’s not the point here as I’m sure you know. If there’s a law on the books about such behavior, one must follow it and not be able to pick & choose which ones they like or not. Dogs have no place in a restaurant or supermarket…end of story! Take them to a designated dog park if you want but not at a place where folks have to eat or buy food. It’s really just that simple! I don’t like a lot of things in this world but that doesn’t give me the right to ignore them. Seriously, if you can’t leave the house without your animal, get the help you need. Don’t make your problems everyone else’s…you don’t have that right no matter how entitled you feel!!
I don’t get why folks are making this issue so hard…it’s really quite simple. Just be a good citizen and you will be treated as such. Decide not to be, and the rest of us do have the right to call you out on it. That’s called being a responsible adult Stu! -
its the Law plain and simple
-
Hey Weiner – if you don’t like Florida – head back to NY with all of your liberal friends – we are full down here – don’t need anymore dumocrats..
-
So Robert you don’t own a service dog. It a diabetic support dog which isn’t allowed in stores. I would tell you to you’re face bucko to get your mangey mutt out of the store. When you refuse I will record you and post it on TT & YT for the world to see. Try bumping me with your cart you moth ball. Our interaction wouldn’t end well for you or you mutt. Proud member of NRS and a CCW holder.
-
The greatest state in the Union! Why everyone is flocking here. Only liberals would bring up guns when talking about dogs!
-
-
Such a sense of entitlement. Amazing.
-
Jon, your post is a bit stupid to say the least. This is not a political issue by any means. Calling folks names just shows what child you really are. I think you know what you can do with your nasty attitude!!!
-
And Dennis, I think the majority of gun owners are on the right & not the left. But think you already know that. Most red states have very liberal gun laws from my research…like Texas & Florida. But totally agree here, the topic is about dogs and not guns.
-
-
A law is a law. Break the law , face the consequences.
-
Mike, like that your post really says it all. What don’t these folks not get? Breaking the law has consequences…all actions have consequences. Just follow them and all will be fine. Choose not to, and you will face the consequences, it’s really that simple. SO rally, what’s the problem???
-
-
You are totally missing the whole point of Dogs not allowed in food stores. A person on speakerphone has nothing to do with this!!
We wouldn’t have to enforce the issue and try to enforce the law if you idiots had brains.
Nobody is being harassed. And I can’t believe you are worried about Publix bottom line-$$
All your comments have absolutely nothing to do with this dog issue. I think you should stand at the door and explain to those think they are entitled, as you make yourself sound “entitled “
I bet you think you are but you are NOT !! -
It’s time to call out these law breakers when you see their dogs embarrass them by calling for the mgr and making a big deal because these entitled people need to be fined and harassed
-
What don’t you jerk-offs get about not bringing your animals into grocery stores of inside restaurants? Are you above too? Idiots.
-
Chip, great post. Short & to the point. Nicely done sir!!!
-
-
Your comment is foolish, because dogs do present a heath hazard. Your mixing apples with oranges. You do not ignore one issue because of another. You don’t like the law, to bad, those that don’t obey the law should be escorted out of the store. Keep your dog home.
-
Dogs
Are awesome. Have you seen the nasty people are you going to kick them out of the stores, for putting there hands, on your fruit, and the buffets you eat at, as they cough and do not wash their hands. Shame on you
-
-
Sorry, I love dogs and own one, but dog owners have gotten ridiculous. Dogs do not belong in places where food is prepared. No matter how clean or cute your dog is..they are dogs. A service animal is one thing, but your “emotional” support dog is not a service animal. Get a clue people.
-
I carry a gun so I guess I am a problem….please remember that when someone needs protection from danger that I can protect myself my family and others around me. Before you spill hate about guns and include them in your hate that we are everyday people, that we respect the laws also, not everyone with a gun is a problem. And as for service animals they are allowed by law in these places and are trained to be a service to their owners. They guide, they can detect a health issue, they do not ride in carts they do not seek others to pet them, they do not responded to other animals. They do a job, not just go to the store or the resturant entertain their owner. A law is for a reason, you might not agree with it but you should respect it
-
The gun owner who posted was out of line. This is about pets, not guns.
-
Sorry, lots of people put their dogs into the food carts and allow them to lay their bacteria-laden butts right where others will put food. Plus, I’ve seen untrained dogs sniff people’s crotches, snatch food, get into fights with other dogs and push small children to the ground. I’ve also seen one dog actually bite its owner in the face in a grocery store when she knelt down to get something from a low shelf. It is gross to see dogs in grocery stores. I don’t want them near food I’m going to purchase, I don’t want their fleas on food I’m going to buy. I don’t want to startle a dog and get bitten. I’m a pet owner, including dogs. I love dogs. But I keep mine at home. Would you allow someone to bring their emotional support pig to the grocery store? Or how about a snake or ferret? What is the difference?
It’s obvious when a dog is trained. They heel, keep their eye on their master and show that they have a job to do. They don’t get distracted by food, other dogs or children and don’t stray from their master’s side. THOSE are working dogs and rightly should be allowed in grocery stores or anyplace else. The rest are merely trying to get away with being selfish morons.
-
Wendy, your post is ridiculous and out of place here. I do have a question for you though. Have you ever read the Second Amendment, especially the whole first line? Bet you haven’t as most folks just stop at the first comma. If you had bothered to read the whole sentence, you’d know that guns are supposed to be for the “militia”. What part of the militia are you in currently? Talking about guns in this thread really makes zero sense. Perhaps you need to read something before commenting on it.
Just a reminder, this forum is about dogs coming into supermarkets and restaurants. Got that???
-
-
Animals in supermarkets, restaurants and planes definitely bothers me and many people I speak to. Just because you are an animal enthusiast, doesn’t mean we all are. What about people with animal allergies, nevermind one just around food other people are buying or trying to consume.
-
This is real journalism and I am very thankful to them for reporting this. My daughter has Autism and is deathly afraid of dogs, she almost got hit by a truck running away from one. These people are ignoring a Federal law and should at least be given a warning and the a fine
-
Lol how about watching over your daughter more carefully rather than sticking your nose in everybody else’s business? People shouldn’t have to adjust their lives just because your daughter is “deathly afraid of dogs”… seriously get a life.
-
Please don’t listen to folks like Caroline, as she seems like a real hateful person…she has the compassion of a rock! Sorry about what your daughter is going through and totally get why you want to protect her. Again, seems like folks like Caroline don’t know how to read as the subject here is bringing dogs into supermarkets & restaurants. Since it seems to be against the law to do this, why do folks see themselves as so entitles to not follow it? There’s really no argument here…if one can’t do it, one shouldn’t!!!
Good luck with your daughter and thanks for being such a good parent. Don’t be bothered by folks like Caroline, she’s really quite the evil one with zero compassion it seems!!!
-
-
I don’t think anyone is “stalking” dog owners….bringing any animal to a restaurant or public food area is absolutely not acceptable. You can love your dog without arrogantly deciding the rules are different for you.
-
Well lily can you not leave your furry friend at home like you do at a doctor or dentist appointment?
-
food sales are not the place for your dog. buck up obey the law, and drop the “i better than you” attitude
-
Your an ass!
-
Not talking about anything but dogs
Stay focused
Karen -
Sounds like a typical comment that would come from a Democrat. Rules and state laws don’t apply to them.
-
Harold, seriously? Did you actually post something as stupid as that? Just look at current events and it doesn’t seem to be the democrats who can’t follow the law! I’ll just tell you to look at those Georgia indictments. Seems like most of those folks are from the other party, the republicans. But guess pesky facts don’t seem to matter to folks like Harold!
The subject here is about dogs in supermarkets & restaurants. Not sure what part of that you don’t seem to understand? A shame that you feel the need to bring politics into this subject for what reason I just don’t know. Just makes you like like a fool!!! -
Harold, are you seriously that numb-braibed to say something as idiotic as that would be a typical comment from a Democrat? I
-
-
Guns are no danger the only danger guns present are when they’re in the hands of Democrats who wish to take the rights of law-abiding citizens away how in the world do you compare a dog being in a supermarket to someone who legally carries a firearm I have been carrying a firearm in Florida since the 90s I’ve never heard anybody but I have stopped a couple of crimes I’ll tell you what if somebody is threatening you I’ll just keep my weapon holstered and walk by and let them hurt you….
-
Nope, I’d bet if you checked, more guns are owned by republicans then democrats. But your post is totally ridiculous as guns are not the subject of this forum. Seriously, do you know how to read??? I honestly don’t think you can and wondering why you’re bringing up guns here??
-
-
The difference in dogs being in a store or restaurant is against the law. Thank your governor for passing a law allowing people to carry guns. Therefore, the difference is in the legal system. Boca News is doing a service for all of us who abide by the law. We’d like them to continue doing their job serving the public and pushing these stores to abide by the law. If you think these people won’t shop Publix you are dreaming. Before long, they won’t be able to shop anyplace because dogs in the grocery stores are against the law.
-
Dos are banned from stores/restaurants because it’s a health issue. Period. It’s as simple as that and it makes sense.
-
Keep your dog at home. No one wants pet hairs on food. Your house , car probably smells like dog. Nasty azz people.
-
Agree with Lily. These people need therapy dogs to calm them down and put their lives into perspective.
-
It is legal to own a gun in Florida. The FDA prohibits dogs from establishments selling food. Any part of the law you don’t understand? Dog owners taking their pets everywhere with them has gotten out of control. Its unsanitary and Boca News Now is not harassing or stalking, just bringing the situation to the attention of the business owners.
-
If you can’t bring yourself to leave your pet at home try shopping through InstaCart or Door Dash or one of many other delivery services. Dogs are filthy and don’t belong in food stores or restaurants.
-
This is a health and safety issue! Dogs in restaurants, on and under tables, on chairs at a table in restaurants, in shopping carts in supermarkets, on floors in coffee shops, is outrageous and it must be stopped! Dogs that are not service dogs, DO NOT belong in places where people put their groceries, or where people are trying to have a meal and the dogs are licking plates, glasses, the table and chairs where children and adults sit! I do not want to worry that when I go to a restaurant or put my groceries in a shopping cart, that an animal was there with animal saliva, feces and urine on their bodies and feet!
-
Your comment is so misguided and ignorant. I am a dog owner who would never bring him into any market. Are you aware that many human foods are toxic to dogs? Grapes which can easily fall to the floor are deadly. The same for chocolate and many others. And I have yet to see a holster wearing gun owner shopping in any Publix.
-
You want the journalists to follow and take pictures of police officers all day?
-
I guess they posted your picture.
-
Lily: you are so behind the times. People bringing pets into restaurants, food stores and other similar type places is “against the law” period!! If they don’t want to leave their dog at home if they are out, they shouldn’t have a dog.
By the way, don’t compare the pet issue in food shops with guns. Obviously, you don’t have a clue about that either. Sad!!!! -
Absolutely agree.
What about snotty nose kids coughing and sneezing all over??
Ban them too then-
Sorry Lisa, the law only mentions animals, not humans. Seriously, have you read the article at least once???
-
-
Keep your dog out of the store. You are apparently a self centered individual who does not care about social norms.
-
Because you aren’t allowed by law because of the disabilities act to ask if the dog is a service animal, Publix or anyone else can post 10 foot signs at their entrance and can’t do a damn thing to stop ignorant people from breaking the law. Until you change the law continue to see the situation escalate.
I already spoke to a Publix manager and he said their hands are tied and will not question anyone. Call corporate he said. -
That’s a blanket statement that the dogs aren’t bothering anyone. You shouldn’t speak for everyone else. I’m tired of seeing dogs yapping at each other and every store I go in. The other day at Applebee’s a server walked by a table and the dog lunged at her and knocked the food out of her hand. So to say dogs aren’t bothering anyone is a gross mischaracterization of the situation and the very reason why this writer needs to put more emphasis on the issue. I have a dog that I love and wish I can bring her everywhere. I just don’t. Not because she’s misbehaves but because whenever I bring her around some other unruly dog they go ballistic. I also got lunch at by a dog walking into a Chinese restaurant the other day they were sitting outside.
-
It is in violation of a federal law. That enough for me not to take my dogs where they are not suppose to be. Too many self entitled people doing whatever they want with no regard to the law or other people around them.
-
Seriously, “Boca Rudton””, “Boca News Now”, get a life and stop harassing dog owners. So many bigger problems in the world. Something tells me you live in a condo and love board meetings, getting into everyone’s business, and stealing Sweet & Low from your local diner.
-
And NO. Service Dogs are NOT required to wear a vest or anything else identifying them as Service Dogs. If you think otherwise, you are very ignorant. Do your research. So yes, some of the dogs you show photos of may be Service Dogs. Someone should report you to the ADA.
-
I couldn’t agree more. What is with all the dog hate in certain parts of this country? Guns apparently r great to bring everywhere but not dogs. If a business does not want dogs tell the owner not to bring it inside. I always always ask if I can bring my dog in, if not no prob. There r places who welcome well behaved dogs
-
-
Dogs are filthy because who wipes their ass? They might have flees, many people are allergic to hairy pets. Leave them home.
-
It’s fleas not flees which is to run away.
-
To publish photos of people with dogs in grocery stores and restaurants without knowing if the dog in question is a service animal is wrong. The assumption that all animals in your parade of pictured animals in grocery stores and restaurants is discriminatory if you are castigating those with service animals from bringing their service animals where they are allowed to be by law
-
A true service dog will have a vest of some kind saying such. All others are just animals that folks need to leave at home. Some of us are allergic to animal hair so it’s kind of rude of folks to just bring their animals because they want to. Think of others first going forward.
-
Lol….. Biden rules right? Idiot!!
-
I agree!! I have a trained service dog and I have the right to bring her anywhere I go. If people don’t like it maybe they should stay home and order Instacart!!
To Boca News if you post my picture and make false claims about me get ready for a law suit. You are journalist do your job to back up your story before you post false accusations. -
If you have a trained service dog then there’s no issue. If you have a fluffy wuffy dog that is an “ESA,” then there is an issue.
-
-
-
I agree! Bringing dogs into restaurants and food stores is totally inconsiderate to other people eating and shopping there. They may be allergic or have other medical issues with the animals that are brought there. Shame on you all for breaking Federal Law!
-
Too many morons live in this state
-
Stu, what state do you live in then? Obviously not Florida. You sure seem a bit entitled I’d say. And it’s not moronic to follow the law and use common sense. It’s just what normal folks do!!!
-
Stuart-
Most of the “morons” in this State are transplants from the Northeast so you’re correct! Very rude too. Used to be a great place to live.
And I LOVE my dog but she definitely does not belong in a grocery store or a restaurant. -
Seriously? Bringing politics into this? How deluded and how disturbed are you blaming liberals? If I had to, I’m willing to bet anything the majority of people bring their animals out in Florida are unvaccinated Trump fans. Being liberal and “woke” means your conscious about social issues like this. Florida is going to hell in a hand basket thanks to Ron Desantis.
-
-
Dogs are not nearly as filthy as you are. Truly a disgusting human being! Would 100% rather be near a dog than someone like you.
-
Tina, seriously, don’t get your panties in a bind here. Simple solution is to keep dogs and other animals at home & not in supermarkets & restaurants. Besides being the right thing to do, seems like it’s the law now. Think we can all be civil enough to respect each other & follow the law! I know I can.
-
Tina, look in the mirror to see the real disgusting person. You seem to be a real Karen here. You seem to think you’re so much better than others here who don’t want dogs where we shop & eat. But that’s the law that we all need to live by. And sorry, but Karens do not get a pass here!
-
FYI. I was in the Publix at Military & Woolbright when a woman came walking in with her dog. I am happy to say that one of the female managers actually told the woman that she could not bring her dog into the store. Thanks Boca News Now 👍👍👍 Your campaign is beginning to work Let’s hope other markets and restaurants begin obeying the law
-
👍

Tóo many dog haters down here

That’s a far stretch I’d say. Think most folks do like animals, just not where they eat and buy their groceries from. There are places like Petco or Petsmart that are the places they can go. So your statement really is a bogus one!
-
Then go back to NY with all
of the flea infested dogs ! -
All you NUTS that moved here to the GREAT state of FLORIDA…we’re a law and order state period! GO HOME!
-
Pretty simple….leave. I don’t hate dogs or any animals, just the aholes who feel entitled to break the law.
-
If you actually read a lot of the responses, you’d find that they are/were dog owners that realize their dogs do NOT belong in restaurants and
wouldn’t bring them into those establishments because they don’t belong there.
They’re not dog haters at all, just courteous and responsible.

Thank you to all those Publix shoppers who leave their dogs at home and if you really can’t part from your dog, use instacart and have your food delivered
I can say I was at Delray Lindburgers and it was very crowded there were 3 dogs in the very small dining area 2 in strollers one in a booth .They all started barking at once ! I felt like I was eating in the animal shelter !
Horrible
-
Proof that they wete not service animals. Restaurants should refuse service. Grocers should refuse to ring up the sale if they get that far.
-
Barking is proof they were not trained service animals. If the business took no action, i think I’d walk out in protest.
As a Federal Law Enforcement Agent and an Individual who respects and enforces the (LAW), these violators should unequivocally be prosecuted! That’s where I come in. The fact that a person doe’s not adhere to State and Federal law and has the disrespect and lack of consideration for others especially, when dogs carry many diseases and bacteria according to the National Institutes of Health such as;
Viral infections such as rabies and norovirus and bacterial infections including Pasteurella, Salmonella, Brucella, Yersinia enterocolitica, Campylobacter, Capnocytophaga, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Coxiella burnetii, Leptospira, Staphylococcus intermedius and Methicillin resistance staphylococcus
During my visits to supermarkets including; Publix, Walmart, Trader Joes’ and many more, I have taken the liberty of contacting the managers directly and reminding them of these violations which should be enforced by their establishments. In some cases I have even approached these violators and challenged them to produce a (Service Dog) I.D. Most people are receptive but some could care less. Though there are many whom seem to believe they’re above the law. In that case I inform them they are subject to a fine and prosecution for violating State and Federal law and I usually photograph them and follow them until they exit the store.
The worst violators are the ones who place their dogs inside the shopping carts and believe that a blanket or rag is acceptable but, it’s not. It’s against the law, period!
The main problem is that many stores have security, the employees are also their; “First Line of Defense” and they can prevent these violators from entering the store at the entrance. Many employees have informed me they have to clean up the dogs crap, which is not in their job description nor is it hygienic. Unfortunately, many managers believe they do not have the right to refuse entry into their stores, which is not the case. Hopefully, some of the store managers, executives and especially violators read this narrative. Keep in mind, when you violate the law, prepare for the consequences.
The Investigator
-
Im assuming you’re off duty when grocery shopping so who are you to ask anyone for service animal identification and harass them until they leave? I’m sure you treat traffic violators with the same tenacity and follow people who are speeding to get their license plate number to report to the local authorities or, better yet, harass them until they leave the highway for the side of the road or a ditch. Thank you for your service 🙂
-
Real bright. Must be a Harvard or Yale grad.
-
-
RIGHT ON! Dogs potentially carry multiple diseases. How selfish of persons bringing them into food establishments, esp in South FL, where seniors who have autoimmune diseases could be compromised by them. Pet owners: Be considerate of others and do not be so selfish!
-
Do you see the people who carry all the diseases touching doors, food, carriages. leave animals alone.. so dumb and ignorant
-
-
Obviously an animal hater. Be more worried about all the gun toting nuts that live here.
-
Weiner lover – dogs are animals and are full diseases – end of the story – leave them at home
-
the law is the law. be it either dogs in the store or a nut job trying to discount a democratic election, all the same

Great comment!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
All so true!!
Thank you
Keep up the good work!! -
Just FYI, I have a medically trained service dog and carry all my paperwork with me. Even if it’s against the law to ask, I would still happily provide it and I have in several cases. I don’t bring my dog to the grocery store often but he does come most places with me. I’ve had several issues with some places and reported them to the ADA. That being said, when he does come with me to a grocery store, I would NEVER put him in a cart, with or without blankets. I have been told horror stories of the disgusting things that employees find from babies and children and would not subject m dog to that filth. Dogs are not the only species that can spread germs or diseases. Humans are the worst culprits in that case. Humans are not as hygienic as many animals. Case in point, COVID!!! WHY did so many people have to be taught how to wash their hands? That’s very disturbing. I have carried hand sanitizer and used wipes long before the pandemic due to my illness and the disgusting habits of humans.
-
Kudos to Publix for making an attempt to curb the non-service dog and entitled pet owner problem. Unfortunately, patrons with non-service dogs will continue to make a mockery of the signage, rules and laws (yes, LAWS) put in place to keep grocery stores and restaurants clean and sanitary that are in the business of serving and selling food. And if store managers and supervisors ignore the infractions and/or refuse to get involved, nothing will change. I have witnessed a manager at Publix have a polite conversation with a woman who had her dog in the child seat of the cart, and he patiently explained why she needed to remove the dog from the cart and from the store, and she refused and continued shopping. The manager just shrugged his shoulders and walked away.
I have shopped at Whole Foods in Miami numerous times over the years and the dog problem has become exponentially worse. On any given day, the store I shop at has become more like a dog park, with at least 8 – 10 dogs on the premises at any given time. Some are on leashes so long that I have almost tripped over them, and asking the dog owner to please pull in the dog so I can pass by will either illicit a sneer from the dog owner, being accused of not liking animals, or simply being ignored. One woman, whose dog had wandered over to a neighboring aisle to sniff another dog and whose long leash made the aisle I was walking in impassible, snottily told me, “Just wait a minute” until she finished grinding her peanut butter, then in her haughty manner accused me of hating dogs. Nothing defines entitled more than that. Except perhaps permitting the incessant barking, and allowing their dogs to sit in the carts with their dirty butts rubbing where your food, purse, or your child may sit.
I have seen dogs in Whole Foods defecate in the store and pee on shelves of food. These are not service dogs because service dogs are trained to behave properly in public places. Some customers bring in 2 dogs at a time. Some dogs are not on leashes at all. And management continually ignores the problem.
People, get a grip. These are animals, and contrary to what you want to believe, they are NOT your children. Leave them home. It is unsanitary to have them in a grocery store or restaurant. If you can’t bear to part with them for the short amount of time while you shop or go out to eat, then something is wrong with you. And please don’t accuse me of being an animal hater – I have had dogs and cats since I was 4 years old. They are members of my family, too, but if an establishment says “NO PETS ALLOWED”, that means NO PETS ALLOWED for EVERYONE, not just me and my family.
-
Unfortunately I’m probably the rarest human ever because I truly have a fear of animals, why I don’t know. Of course I’m ridiculed and hated because I’m the person who will go around the alternate aisle just to dodge having an encounter with a dog. I just don’t understand why people just can’t follow this rule? A rule is a rule. I was attempting to enter a TJMAXX on s. Federal and a man had two white parrots! One on his shoulder, the other sitting on the cart. My kid said looks like we’re not going to be able to get in mom. I had to leave. Animals have a place- where I shop for food not. I never understood how people allow their dogs to lick their faces when the dog licks themselves? It’s all just really gross to me and people just have to respect each other’s sentiments that not everyone is a dog lover and they shouldn’t be chastised for it.

-
Investigator, Maybe you should know the law before you approach a disabled person with a service dog and ask for a service dog ID which is not required by law!
-
By your explanation of the laws on service dogs… I can reasonably believe you are NOT an inspector. As you do not know about the ADA service dog (and mini horses) laws. I have a Diabetic Alert Dog. He only needs collar and leash. He does NOT have to have ID. And there is NO official paperwork required. And following a person and their SD around is not only harassment… It is distracting a SD. A FELONY.
If anyone wants the truth on what the law is on SD’s… Go to: ADA.gov.
They don’t care. They will do what they want. Start with the fines. Of course if they are rich or have enough money they will laugh and pay the fine. These people who have the nerve to constantly bring their dogs into food stores and restaurants will continue until they are fined. They don’t respect anyone else but themselves
I was in Walmart on military trail in delray beach and someone had a dog not a service dog near the food section. I said something to an associate and was told they are not allowed to say anything. I also asked a manager and was told that only if the dog is in a cart can they say something. I told them it was the law and was told to call 1-800-walmart
Keep up the good work ! These offenders should be fined , and then maybe they will think twice before violating federal laws.
I think the people who have nothing better to do but to take pictures of pets in stores should help crime in our area. Go around taking pictures of people committing crimes & help our community. I do not have any pets but if a small dog in a stroller is in a store, well behaved what’s the harm. If you have allergies then tell the other patron if they would not mind moving their pets away from you. As far as dirty animals yes there are some because of their owners. Some people are not very clean or sanitary. We all have experienced people that don’t look clean & have body odor Eating grapes & cherries from the produce department. Picking their noses or blowing their noses on their clothes. I have seen people having accidents in stores themselves. Some elderly cant help it at times. Are we going to band them next?
I have been to two restaurants where a friend had a small Frenchie in a stroller. Yes we were sitting outside. He is well known & the managers told us he was always welcomed there. The amount of attention he gets is remarkable. He just sits or lays in is stroller taking it all in. So many people come up to him talking & petty him. It’s almost like he is a therapy dog for other people. We get into long conversations with people who have lost their pets or are lonely because of losing a spouse. They compliment how well behaved he is than the screaming children in a restaurant, which we all experienced.I love kids, have children & come from a very large family. I think we should leave enforcing the law to the individual establishment. There are people that bring therapy animals to hospitals & nursing homes to cheer up the sick & elderly. We all have seen the wonderful stories on TV. Are we going to forbid them as well? Will we see those pictures next? Our local news is always looking for weather watchers taking pictures I think that would be more interesting.
-
Thank you! I am a lifelong sofla resident and a golden doodle owner. I don’t bring my giant girl into grocery stores but have gone to the pharmacy with her. I do bring her to the occasional restaurant to sit outside and sometimes shopping with me. Like you, she brings so much joy that people are constantly stopping to take photos with her like at Disney lol. Honestly I would much rather be around dogs than people. I work at makeup stores and when someone brings in their dog, it’s like a celebrity walks in. I think what needs to happen is that dogs should be allowed in more places and keep the grumpy rule followers at home
-
Just, think your comment is probably the dumbest one I’ve read so far! What about using common sense & following the law don’t you understand? Going through life so ignorant probably isn’t the best thing to do.
-
-
Regina, please stay on topic here. Dogs do not belong in supermarkets or restaurants…period. And since it seems to be the law now, why do folks think they don’t have to listen? This is America where we have laws that we live by. It’s not for us to pick & choose the ones we will follow or the ones we won’t. Your story was a nice story but not germane to the topic. Dogs are not allowed in supermarkets or restaurants.
Finally Publix has taken action.. j had 2 dogs NEVER thought of taking f them in a supermarket. Only pet stores n Vets should allow dogs. I work in nonfood retail and it’s ridiculous. The dogs leave there calling cards and employees clean it up not the owners. Those that are complaining about Publix enforcement are the same who think whatever they do is ok. Guess what folks it’s not.
What part about not breaking the law is so difficult to comprehend? It’s the same sense of entitlement that people display all over this community, from dogs to traffic lights, speed limits and illegal parking etc etc. Laws and rules and guidelines are in place for a reason, to protect the public from harm. The needs of the many always outweigh the needs of the few, it’s not that deep or difficult to understand.
Who is the specific person at so called Boca News who is the obvious dog hater? why don’t your articles give credit to the author or so called “reporter” ? I say this because of the language used towards the dog owners and dogs is very hateful, derogatory and you are clearly not just stating the law by using language and terms such as:
“or so-called “emotional support animal” is that Boca News official stance that emotional support animals are “so called” ?? Ok let’s get that picked up by a bigger publication and news source and make it known that Boca News believes all emotional support animals are “so called”.
Also Boca News refers to a alledged quote from a Publix manager: “said a local Publix manager. “Corporate couldn’t take you publishing photos every week of rude shoppers bringing their gross dogs into our stores.”
Boca news is quoting Publix as referring to their customers as rude and pets as “gross dogs” ?? I doubt that is true so now we will now go to Publix corporate with your article & quote to get their confirmation on that quote and acknowledge that Publix believes all their shopping customers who bring dogs are “rude” and their beloved family pet dogs are “gross” ??? let’s see how Publix responds and then we will get Boca News fake quote and Publix official stance to a real news source. Have you ever thought for a minute that maybe since the law was not enforced and people saw other people doing it they just thought nothing of it? why the personal attacks, insults and disrespect.
This anti dog crusade Boca News is on is going to result in a lot of “dog lovers” to abandon the already teeny tiny microscopic readership so keep on going mystery so called “news reporter”. I’d be willing to bet 90% or more of your readers own & love dogs. You can simply point out the facts, the law to make your point abd not disparage, disrespect and insult 1,000’s of dog owners and their dogs.
-
Wow, Joe. A little defensive? How about following the law. Seems the vast majority of people in South Palm Beach County are appreciative that Publix stepped up and did the right thing. Maybe you should, too. We love the #FakeNews allegation. How about #FollowTheLaw?
-
No one wants to read about you harassing people that are just living their lives… honestly post news that actually mean something! Get new writers who write about people actually care about!
-
The ADA is to blame here. There should be “legal” ways to identify a true service animal on sight. The fact that someone doesn’t have to prove their animal is a service animal is the problem. They should have to wear vests, they should have to show papers. It’s not inconvenient to the owners in any way, but it is inconvenient for other patrons who don’t like animals.
-
Great post Boca News. I’ve been a reader for years now and like the job you are doing. This behavior has gotten totally out of control and time for folks to get it. Just do the right thing and follow the law. Not too difficult I’d say!
-
-
Joe, your post is the most ridiculous one in this thread! Think you need to get a grip here and stop assuming things that are probably not true. Use common sense and follow the law as it applies to animal ownership, not a difficult concept to understand. Dogs have no place in supermarkets or restaurants and think most normal folks get that. Common sense has to come into play at some point but guess common sense apparently is not so common! The rest of you who don’t, well you have bigger issues in life to deal with. Your post though, being ridiculous & over the top did make me laugh though. Your mind must be a truly strange place to be!!
Everyone has to go over it …. If it’s says no dogs then no dogs. As far as service or medical vests, papers anyone can get those on the internet and not asking it’s a joke. I actually worked in a industry and had person use the medical and I called them out and they got caught. I call local PD and I wanted to use the law to fullest. I think those who use this and have no rights to should spend 30-60 days in jail.
And I have 4 dogs. So don’t pull the no pet person.
You need to stop making a lot about nothing. What problem you’re trying to solve??? These loud people who’s afraid of who knows what are trying to rule the world. Pay attention and energy solving real problems, not this non-problem. This is pathetic!
-
Your post is total nonsense! Some folks feel entitled to break the law. That’s not the way it works in America. There are plenty of other places to take your animals besides Publix I think. And I bet you know this…hopefully! If not, you have bigger problems to deal with.
It’s about time these filthy accessory mutts and their idiotic owners are called out. Only legitimate trained service animals belong wherever their owners are. Yappy little untrained Fifi and FooFoo do not.
Leave your animals home. They should not be allowed in restaurants or grocery stores where there is food. Everyone does not think it’s okay to let dogs eat at the table
These dog lovers need to be considerate of other people. I don’t want animals around my food it’s not sanitary
You know what, I’m sick of people complaining about dogs in supermarkets. What about you people in supermarkets, that are rude and obnoxious. I’m allergic to perfume, and I don’t tell you idiots to stay home. And no, I’m not staying home either. Neither should my dogs. They are my family, my children. You know you people and some, not educated children, should be the ones staying home. Dogs should be allowed everywhere that we are allowed, because just like us they are living beings. They are better than humans. So you all need to stop being so ignorant. These are all public places, for everybody, not just humans. If you don’t like it, then you are the ones that need to stay home.
-
Crazy talk.
-
“My children”…and their in lies the problem. They are pets, not people.
-
You need help
-
Imho…anyone without a disability requiring a service animal who needs to bring an animal to be able to ship is in dire need of therapy
-
Johanna, don’t really know how to answer your post except to say…are you out of your mind? Seriously, your comment is so looney tunes it ain’t even funny. Please, I implore you, get the help you so obviously need. Trust me, animals are not your children!!!
I don’t understand the people who want dogs banned and don’t just call the police themselves? I I see someone who is breaking the law I would call the cops. I am a little concerned for the workers in the stores trying to enforce laws with so many crazies out there. I don’t want anyone to get into a physical altercation so if I see a dog where it doesn’t belong I am going to take action myself. Let the police handle these lawbreakers.
This is not a liberal vs conservative issue. Why even assume that since all liberals and all conservatives most likely disagree on this issue. It’s not political. Dogs are not allowed in places where food is sold or served. What is so difficult to understand about that? Why do people feel a sense of entitlement to do as they wish ? And why bring up the issue of guns? Just to take the focus off of the fact that the law is no pets in certain places. This includes most of the beaches also, but there isn’t much outrage about no dogs on beaches cause people don’t want to lay where a dog has done his business. So if dogs in these stores, why not pet cats, pet rats, and pet iguanas. Why not turn all restaurants and super markets into mini zoos…..
They bring their dog(s) because they figure if Meghan Markele can do it in California they can do it too.
I love dogs. However Boca Rudeton is right. Leave dogs at home, or in the car with the window rolled down 6 inches. Bring your dog to a park, or dog beach, woods, let them run free but not indoor places that have an importance in the standard of hygiene for our health, food quality, esp. during times of COVID etc.. It’s time you start caring about your fellow humans.. When you meet someone special you can invite them to your home and introduce your beloved dog.. Again I love dogs, they are wonderful.. Make sure you take them to a place where they can run and play with other dogs…
It’s amazing how self righteous and entitled dog owners are. I never realized until reading these comments. I live in Tampa and we obviously don’t have anything of a problem with customers taking their animals into stores like in Boca. Although I threw a fit at Bahama Breeze one day at lunch when the table next to me tried to sneak their long haired pocket pooch into the restaurant one day. Just because you own a dog doesn’t mean you are an allergist. You have no idea the radius of travel of an allergen. You also don’t realize the amount of dander and hair that travels throughout the store onto the food I guess pan to purchase. I love animals but I don’t presume all do. I have a grand child on the spectrum who is petrified of dogs he doesn’t personally know. He would be climbing up the display cases at the sight of a dog in the store. Should I keep my human out because your righteous a** insists on bringing your dog in? Follow the law, learn the law, don’t try to bend the law to fit your lifestyle without respect for others. There is a difference between a service animal and a therapy animal. PERIOD THE END.
Thank you for your efforts to bring attention that dogs are being brought into our Florida stores so prolifically. I am with you all the way, right from the beginning. My only question to this problem is why stores and restaurants allow dogs into their establishments. I find that the dog owners have an attitude that they their dog is an exception and can go anywhere. Whatever happened to leaving your pooch at home? One of my friends has this attitude and we argue the point all the time. Send in the cops!
As A Child then only service dogs allowed in any store or restaurant was that of a Blind Person , There was also a large notice that said ” Please Do Not Pet ” on Every Dog . This should hold true today , No Dogs On Planes Trains Shops Restaurants food store of any kind . We Love Our Pets yes …But don’t be a pretentious A$$ with a sense of entitlement. You are undermining true people with physical deficiencies . Take your dog the the dog park . WHERE ALL DOGS ARE WELCOME !
The funny thing is people that have a true disability, and have a service dog don’t seem to mind proving it. Even though the losses they don’t have to which I’ve always found kind of strange because it leads to problems like people bringing animals in that are not trying service animals. Most people I know with trained service animals have no problem answering questions about them and reminding children not to come and pet the dog while they’re on the job. I saw a guy at Publix the other day before they put the signs up who was literally mopping the floor with his little long-haired dog that had a service dog vest on but wasn’t even walking, he was dragging the dog. I saw a couple at home Depot the other day with two dogs and a basket moving towards the entrance of the store. As they were crossing the driveway one of the dogs jumped out of the cart and was almost hit by a car the owner was also almost hit trying to rescue the dog. The dogs have no need for tools they have no reason to be in home Depot. I understand that home Depot is a pet friendly store. The grocery store is not a pet friendly store and shouldn’t be.
I have an emotional support cow, can I bring it into your kitchen? You shouldn’t care if it shits on your floor.
Dogs are livestock, they will shit anywhere, do NOT take them to a grocery store. If you need emotional support, go see a psychiatrist.
-
Rudy, I vote to make your post the funniest of the day!!! Priceless really!!!
No one is above the law!! Dog owners, who do you think you are, Donald Trump???
-
Tom, thanks for giving me a good laugh today. And so totally on the mark especially with what’s going in our country right now! You’ve hit a bulls-eye here!!!
Finally Publix has stood up to these entitled people who think they can take their pets anywhere! A Service animal has been specifically trained for the owner and can save their life. It takes untold hours of training and cost for one such trained animal. Your emotional support dog/pet is nothing more than a glorified pet that you think is your kid. Stop being so selfish.
As a nurse, I do understand there are people who need service animals but for heaven’s sake – please keep your non-service dogs at home. Just obey the law!!
These comments remind me of Nextdoor. Animals are the most frequent topic, usually ducks and iguanas but sometimes dogs as well. First, people argue about how many more rights “God’s creatures” have than humans, then it invariably turns political within a few comments. All ducks are Democrats whereas Iguanas skew Republican, in case you were dying to know.
-
Lane, thanks for clearing this up for me. I was wondering who was for each side. Nicely explained.
I am an animal lover. Grew up with dogs and now have rescue dogs at my office, along with a rescue cat and 2 rescue parrots. But I do not believe dogs need to go everywhere! This is not good for them anyway. Their owners will cause them to have separation anxiety should they leave them at home now. Yes, the owners fault. Not the stores that are now sticking to the law, the owners! I 10000% agree it should only be service dogs. Vets and Doctors, for a fee, will make any dog a support dog. A little tougher for service dogs I believe. So, now everyone gets their dogs certified as an emotional support dog. Ok, then perhaps they should stay home with their dogs and order groceries on line! This s hit was never an issue when In was growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. Nowadays, everyone is apparently so weak they cannot go to the store without Fido! I
Most of these people probably put clothes on their pups too, which is dog abuse! They are not meant to wear clothes!
Just like people are gods creation so are dogs but i no interest in getting a dog neither do ever want one i go to people’s house that have dogs and their house smells disgusting smells like fish in that house it is so unsanitary to live in house with dogs dogs have absolutely no place in supermarket and restaurants where people buying and eating their food
Why not write about the bicyclists and how they ignore the law making it dangerous for motorists and pedestrians. Too many times walking on the sidewalk, bicyclists make you jump to the side because they feel they have the right of way. They have bicycle lanes and yet they
want to ride on the sidewalk. New laws have been passed making it safer for bicyclists on the road.
Pedestrians have no protection from inconsiderate, self righteous bicyclists and motorists.
You get the green signal to walk sb at Palmetto and 12thAve. But instead you have to scream at drivers that dont yield to you because they’re making a right on red. Hate to break the news, but pedestrians in crosswalk have right of way. In NYC the police enforced these laws. Here, the police only go after speeders. They see an infraction in front of them and do nothing. Put some unmarked police cars enforcing stop signs, not yielding to pedestrians, bikes riding on sidewalks or wrong direction on road.
If the police dont want to enforce these quality of life conditions, hire traffic enforcement police/ agents.
-
Earth to Lance…earth to Lance, what the hell are you taking about? Did you even read what this forum is about before you commented? Obviously not. Seriously, please stay on topic here…it really isn’t that hard to understand sir!!!
People you need to keep your nasty dog’s at home. You are the same people whose house smells like dog, dog hair on the sofa , kitchen and lay up in bed with the dog. No telling what else you do. You are s bunch of people who think you are entitled. A bunch of Karens. So before you come at me with the BS., I’ve owned dogs. Keep your pets at home!!!!!
I asked the cashier at Whole Foods in Delray Beach if they were dog-friendly and got a very cheerful, “Oh yes! You can bring your dog in here!” I responded that, as a grocery store, they were not allowed to be dog-friendly, only open to service dogs performing a daily living task for someone with disabilities. I suffer from depression and I have animals, but I left my pup in my running car with the doors locked while I shopped. Pets, even emotional support pets, should not be in restaurants and grocery stores for good reason… people may have severe allergies or phobias and everyone needs to eat, but those of us that use our animals for emotional support can stand to be without our beloved friend for half an hour.

The Karens have taken to pursue dog owners. Unfortunately Publix bowed to them. I agree that reports should go after criminals not dogs and their owners. I will try to avoid shopping at Publix because of this policy.
Hooray!! Publix is great and the best unless you enjoy inferior stores
that’s great to hear – tell all of your Ahole friends also that bring their horses to Publix – leave your mangy dog at home and quit stinking up South Florida
Pamela Maraziti
All I can say is
Seen a dog deficate in a Boca Publix last week
Owner made minimal attempt to clean up
Good by no one will miss you. There are enough filthy markets in bad neighborhoods, go shop there.
Where open food is displayed, is no place for pets
If your dog is not a service dog it does not belong in the store or a restaurant or in a bar there’s no reason for this that’s logical bringing your dog to a bar if you’re drinking buddy I don’t think so mostly distressed people should seek help as far as dogs being in Publix I don’t want dog hair in my food that I’m getting at the cafeteria keep Fido home
Albert, you and dog owners are the Karens.
The Morons of the world have lost their minds. Not even a “service animal” belongs anywhere where food is sold. Dogs in this country are treated like cats were in Egypt.🤢. But it’s the Morons of the world who have taken over👿
I am glad you wont be shopping in Publix with your pet, unsanitary and against the law. So, you dont get your way and complain.
Karens? Albert you are confused. Publix, Karen wont miss you. And we won’t miss the dogs.
Lily’s real name is……KAREN
Agree with you 100%. I’m a dos owner and would never bring my dog into a restaurant or supermarket. That’s todays problem with these liberals and wokes they want to change everything in the world.
I completly agree about supermarket and restaurants are fir people and NOT FOR DOGS. I have dof but I don’t my dog inside for respect people. No one wants dogs hair in drinks abd foods and worse dogs liking fruits and others food..
Keep your damn dogs at home I don’t want that stories restaurants or anywhere else keep them in your house I don’t want to go shopping and see a dog I don’t want to go to a restaurant and see a dog outside or inside keep your damn dogs home in your house
I am a liberal, but the law is the law. As an animal lover and owner, I still don’t want dog hair in my food or drink, nor fleas/dander. Leave Fido at home. BTW it also applies to guns. Lately it has become the OK Corral.
We don’t want to see your stinky ass dogs. And if you need them to be with you everywhere then you are a mental case.
Go get professional help you idiots.
Taking pictures of tax paying citizens doesn’t make our city safer. Half the people don’t even wear shoes in Publix let alone take showers. Get a life or a JOB. People with jobs don’t have time for the perfecting Publix experiences. Mask up if your scared
That’s not the point Brad. These folks need to follow the law and leave their animals at home! Only a certified service animal is allowed which again is something that I don’t agree with. If you can’t leave home without your animal, then stay home. Don’t break any laws. It really is that simple!!
I agree.leave the dogs & their owners alone. I would rather see someone with a dog than some of the morons that live here. Especially the idiots who are running this state
Stuart, that’s not the point here as I’m sure you know.
That’s called being a responsible adult Stu!
its the Law plain and simple
Hey Weiner – if you don’t like Florida – head back to NY with all of your liberal friends – we are full down here – don’t need anymore dumocrats..
The greatest state in the Union! Why everyone is flocking here. Only liberals would bring up guns when talking about dogs!
Such a sense of entitlement. Amazing.
Jon, your post is a bit stupid to say the least. This is not a political issue by any means. Calling folks names just shows what child you really are. I think you know what you can do with your nasty attitude!!!
And Dennis, I think the majority of gun owners are on the right & not the left. But think you already know that. Most red states have very liberal gun laws from my research…like Texas & Florida. But totally agree here, the topic is about dogs and not guns.
A law is a law. Break the law , face the consequences.
Mike, like that your post really says it all. What don’t these folks not get? Breaking the law has consequences…all actions have consequences. Just follow them and all will be fine. Choose not to, and you will face the consequences, it’s really that simple. SO rally, what’s the problem???
You are totally missing the whole point of Dogs not allowed in food stores. A person on speakerphone has nothing to do with this!!
We wouldn’t have to enforce the issue and try to enforce the law if you idiots had brains.
Nobody is being harassed. And I can’t believe you are worried about Publix bottom line-$$
All your comments have absolutely nothing to do with this dog issue. I think you should stand at the door and explain to those think they are entitled, as you make yourself sound “entitled “
I bet you think you are but you are NOT !!
It’s time to call out these law breakers when you see their dogs embarrass them by calling for the mgr and making a big deal because these entitled people need to be fined and harassed
What don’t you jerk-offs get about not bringing your animals into grocery stores of inside restaurants? Are you above too? Idiots.
Chip, great post. Short & to the point. Nicely done sir!!!
Your comment is foolish, because dogs do present a heath hazard. Your mixing apples with oranges. You do not ignore one issue because of another. You don’t like the law, to bad, those that don’t obey the law should be escorted out of the store. Keep your dog home.
Dogs
Are awesome. Have you seen the nasty people are you going to kick them out of the stores, for putting there hands, on your fruit, and the buffets you eat at, as they cough and do not wash their hands. Shame on you
Sorry, I love dogs and own one, but dog owners have gotten ridiculous. Dogs do not belong in places where food is prepared. No matter how clean or cute your dog is..they are dogs. A service animal is one thing, but your “emotional” support dog is not a service animal. Get a clue people.
A law is for a reason, you might not agree with it but you should respect it
The gun owner who posted was out of line. This is about pets, not guns.
Got that???
Animals in supermarkets, restaurants and planes definitely bothers me and many people I speak to. Just because you are an animal enthusiast, doesn’t mean we all are. What about people with animal allergies, nevermind one just around food other people are buying or trying to consume.
This is real journalism and I am very thankful to them for reporting this. My daughter has Autism and is deathly afraid of dogs, she almost got hit by a truck running away from one. These people are ignoring a Federal law and should at least be given a warning and the a fine
Lol how about watching over your daughter more carefully rather than sticking your nose in everybody else’s business? People shouldn’t have to adjust their lives just because your daughter is “deathly afraid of dogs”… seriously get a life.
I don’t think anyone is “stalking” dog owners….bringing any animal to a restaurant or public food area is absolutely not acceptable. You can love your dog without arrogantly deciding the rules are different for you.
Well lily can you not leave your furry friend at home like you do at a doctor or dentist appointment?
food sales are not the place for your dog. buck up obey the law, and drop the “i better than you” attitude
Your an ass!
Not talking about anything but dogs
Stay focused
Karen
Sounds like a typical comment that would come from a Democrat. Rules and state laws don’t apply to them.
Harold, are you seriously that numb-braibed to say something as idiotic as that would be a typical comment from a Democrat? I
Guns are no danger the only danger guns present are when they’re in the hands of Democrats who wish to take the rights of law-abiding citizens away how in the world do you compare a dog being in a supermarket to someone who legally carries a firearm I have been carrying a firearm in Florida since the 90s I’ve never heard anybody but I have stopped a couple of crimes I’ll tell you what if somebody is threatening you I’ll just keep my weapon holstered and walk by and let them hurt you….
Nope, I’d bet if you checked, more guns are owned by republicans then democrats. But your post is totally ridiculous as guns are not the subject of this forum. Seriously, do you know how to read??? I honestly don’t think you can and wondering why you’re bringing up guns here??
The difference in dogs being in a store or restaurant is against the law. Thank your governor for passing a law allowing people to carry guns. Therefore, the difference is in the legal system. Boca News is doing a service for all of us who abide by the law. We’d like them to continue doing their job serving the public and pushing these stores to abide by the law. If you think these people won’t shop Publix you are dreaming. Before long, they won’t be able to shop anyplace because dogs in the grocery stores are against the law.
Dos are banned from stores/restaurants because it’s a health issue. Period. It’s as simple as that and it makes sense.
Keep your dog at home. No one wants pet hairs on food. Your house , car probably smells like dog. Nasty azz people.
Agree with Lily. These people need therapy dogs to calm them down and put their lives into perspective.
If you can’t bring yourself to leave your pet at home try shopping through InstaCart or Door Dash or one of many other delivery services. Dogs are filthy and don’t belong in food stores or restaurants.
You want the journalists to follow and take pictures of police officers all day?
I guess they posted your picture.
Sad!!!!
Absolutely agree.
What about snotty nose kids coughing and sneezing all over??
Ban them too then
Sorry Lisa, the law only mentions animals, not humans. Seriously, have you read the article at least once???
Keep your dog out of the store. You are apparently a self centered individual who does not care about social norms.
It is in violation of a federal law. That enough for me not to take my dogs where they are not suppose to be. Too many self entitled people doing whatever they want with no regard to the law or other people around them.
Seriously, “Boca Rudton””, “Boca News Now”, get a life and stop harassing dog owners. So many bigger problems in the world. Something tells me you live in a condo and love board meetings, getting into everyone’s business, and stealing Sweet & Low from your local diner.
And NO. Service Dogs are NOT required to wear a vest or anything else identifying them as Service Dogs. If you think otherwise, you are very ignorant. Do your research. So yes, some of the dogs you show photos of may be Service Dogs. Someone should report you to the ADA.
Dogs are filthy because who wipes their ass? They might have flees, many people are allergic to hairy pets. Leave them home.
It’s fleas not flees which is to run away.
A true service dog will have a vest of some kind saying such. All others are just animals that folks need to leave at home. Some of us are allergic to animal hair so it’s kind of rude of folks to just bring their animals because they want to. Think of others first going forward.
Lol….. Biden rules right? Idiot!!
I agree!! I have a trained service dog and I have the right to bring her anywhere I go. If people don’t like it maybe they should stay home and order Instacart!!
To Boca News if you post my picture and make false claims about me get ready for a law suit. You are journalist do your job to back up your story before you post false accusations.
If you have a trained service dog then there’s no issue. If you have a fluffy wuffy dog that is an “ESA,” then there is an issue.
I agree! Bringing dogs into restaurants and food stores is totally inconsiderate to other people eating and shopping there. They may be allergic or have other medical issues with the animals that are brought there. Shame on you all for breaking Federal Law!
Too many morons live in this state
Stu, what state do you live in then? Obviously not Florida. You sure seem a bit entitled I’d say. And it’s not moronic to follow the law and use common sense. It’s just what normal folks do!!!
Stuart-
Most of the “morons” in this State are transplants from the Northeast so you’re correct! Very rude too. Used to be a great place to live.
And I LOVE my dog but she definitely does not belong in a grocery store or a restaurant.
Dogs are not nearly as filthy as you are. Truly a disgusting human being! Would 100% rather be near a dog than someone like you.
Tina, look in the mirror to see the real disgusting person. You seem to be a real Karen here. You seem to think you’re so much better than others here who don’t want dogs where we shop & eat. But that’s the law that we all need to live by. And sorry, but Karens do not get a pass here!
👍
Tóo many dog haters down here
That’s a far stretch I’d say. Think most folks do like animals, just not where they eat and buy their groceries from. There are places like Petco or Petsmart that are the places they can go. So your statement really is a bogus one!
Then go back to NY with all
of the flea infested dogs !
All you NUTS that moved here to the GREAT state of FLORIDA…we’re a law and order state period! GO HOME!
Pretty simple….leave. I don’t hate dogs or any animals, just the aholes who feel entitled to break the law.
If you actually read a lot of the responses, you’d find that they are/were dog owners that realize their dogs do NOT belong in restaurants and
wouldn’t bring them into those establishments because they don’t belong there.
They’re not dog haters at all, just courteous and responsible.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you to all those Publix shoppers who leave their dogs at home and if you really can’t part from your dog, use instacart and have your food delivered
I can say I was at Delray Lindburgers and it was very crowded there were 3 dogs in the very small dining area 2 in strollers one in a booth .They all started barking at once ! I felt like I was eating in the animal shelter !
Horrible
Proof that they wete not service animals. Restaurants should refuse service. Grocers should refuse to ring up the sale if they get that far.
Barking is proof they were not trained service animals. If the business took no action, i think I’d walk out in protest.
As a Federal Law Enforcement Agent and an Individual who respects and enforces the (LAW), these violators should unequivocally be prosecuted! That’s where I come in. The fact that a person doe’s not adhere to State and Federal law and has the disrespect and lack of consideration for others especially, when dogs carry many diseases and bacteria according to the National Institutes of Health such as;
Viral infections such as rabies and norovirus and bacterial infections including Pasteurella, Salmonella, Brucella, Yersinia enterocolitica, Campylobacter, Capnocytophaga, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Coxiella burnetii, Leptospira, Staphylococcus intermedius and Methicillin resistance staphylococcus
Im assuming you’re off duty when grocery shopping so who are you to ask anyone for service animal identification and harass them until they leave? I’m sure you treat traffic violators with the same tenacity and follow people who are speeding to get their license plate number to report to the local authorities or, better yet, harass them until they leave the highway for the side of the road or a ditch. Thank you for your service 🙂
Real bright. Must be a Harvard or Yale grad.
RIGHT ON! Dogs potentially carry multiple diseases. How selfish of persons bringing them into food establishments, esp in South FL, where seniors who have autoimmune diseases could be compromised by them. Pet owners: Be considerate of others and do not be so selfish!
Do you see the people who carry all the diseases touching doors, food, carriages. leave animals alone.. so dumb and ignorant
Obviously an animal hater. Be more worried about all the gun toting nuts that live here.
Weiner lover – dogs are animals and are full diseases – end of the story – leave them at home
the law is the law. be it either dogs in the store or a nut job trying to discount a democratic election, all the same
Great comment!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
All so true!!
Thank you
Keep up the good work!!
Investigator, Maybe you should know the law before you approach a disabled person with a service dog and ask for a service dog ID which is not required by law!
Just, think your comment is probably the dumbest one I’ve read so far! What about using common sense & following the law don’t you understand? Going through life so ignorant probably isn’t the best thing to do.
Wow, Joe. A little defensive? How about following the law. Seems the vast majority of people in South Palm Beach County are appreciative that Publix stepped up and did the right thing. Maybe you should, too. We love the #FakeNews allegation. How about #FollowTheLaw?
No one wants to read about you harassing people that are just living their lives… honestly post news that actually mean something! Get new writers who write about people actually care about!
Great post Boca News. I’ve been a reader for years now and like the job you are doing. This behavior has gotten totally out of control and time for folks to get it. Just do the right thing and follow the law. Not too difficult I’d say!
Crazy talk.
“My children”…and their in lies the problem. They are pets, not people.
You need help
Imho…anyone without a disability requiring a service animal who needs to bring an animal to be able to ship is in dire need of therapy
Rudy, I vote to make your post the funniest of the day!!! Priceless really!!!
No one is above the law!! Dog owners, who do you think you are, Donald Trump???
