This was supposed to be a big day for Brightline, launching service to and from Orlando. A person was struck by a Brightline train in Delray Beach around 7 a.m. Friday. (Brightline).

UPDATE: As of 8:01 a.m., we have learned this was apparently a suicide and the area should be reopened within the hour.

DELRAY BEACH, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Brightline has reportedly struck a pedestrian in Delray Beach. An investigation is underway as of 7:15 Friday morning.

Police tell BocaNewsNow.com that the incident occurred on the tracks in the area of SE 2nd Avenue and SE 4th Street. Expect the area to be congested.

It was not immediately clear whether the victim accidentally — or intentionally — ended up on the tracks as the train approached. What led to the incident remains part of the investigation.

This was supposed to be a big day for Brightline which launched service early Friday to Orlando, the first high speed rail service for Brigthline between South Florida and Central Florida.
