“Shortly after 8:23 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the 3700 block of Northeast Third Avenue in Deerfield Beach.
The preliminary investigation revealed the driver, Samuel Gordon Vallon of Boynton Beach, was driving a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta traveling southbound on Northeast Third Avenue within the left thru lane approaching the 3700 block. Meanwhile, the pedestrian who was in a wheelchair — Brandon Griffin — was crossing Northeast Third Avenue from east to west, south of a designated crosswalk.

North Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded and transported the pedestrian to Broward Health North where he was pronounced deceased. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
At this time, driver impairment, mechanical malfunction and reckless speed are not considered to be contributing factors in this case.”
