BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — That smoke smell around Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, and much of South Florida is real. Candian wildfires are burning, and smoke is wafting into South Florida. There is an air quality alert in effect for much of the region.

While Palm Beach County is hit or miss for direct impact, there is a notable haze and smell in the air. Anyone with respiratory issues, and older members of the population, should try to stay inside today. The problems started Tuesday and may continue throughout the week.

Temperatures will overall be decent today, but there’s very little rain in the forecast. Combine that with a nice breeze and — while it looks good on paper — the combination can lead to air quality issues. The air quality issues increase as you head into Broward and Miami-Dade Counties. The problems also exist in Collier County.

Expect a high in the mid to upper 80s today.
