BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If you saw a major police response around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of the Woodfield Country Club and Woodfield Plaza, know two things: first, it was fake. Second, everything worked the way it’s supposed to work if the situation had been real.
Police and other sources tell BocaNewsNow.com that this was nothing more than a “Swatting” incident. Someone called in a fake report claiming that a gun person was on the loose, apparently firing indiscriminately. But police quickly realized that the situation was not as reported. There was no gun person. Everyone was fine.
That didn’t stop several people from skipping several heartbeats. Schools in the area were locked down, and residents of Woodfield Country Club received a text alert stating that a gunman was on the loose near the gates of the community. Homeowners were encouraged to shelter in place.
No word if there are any suspects. But the good news — roughly half an hour after the incident began, an all-clear was given. There was no gun person. And the emergency alert systems worked exactly as expected, keeping kids, teachers, and homeowners in the know as police responded within moments.
