BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — There are no credible threats Friday morning, but police across South Florida are on high alert after Hamas called for an international “day of terror,” or “day of Jihad.” The call for action comes as Israel prepares to retaliate for the unprovoked terroristic attack on Israel launched Saturday.
In Palm Beach County, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office issued this statement: “Amid rising global tensions & hate crimes, we’re increasing vigilance around religious establishments to ensure safety for all in Palm Beach County. Report suspicious activity easily with our new app “PBSO” on your smartphone. Download at http://pbsoapp.com & help keep our community peaceful.”
The Palm Beach County School District, Broward County School District, and Miami-Dade School District all report no legitimate threats or concerns Friday morning. The Broward County School District dealt with at least one “unsubstantiated threat” on Thursday. It continues to be investigated.
Police on Miami Beach issued this statement early Friday morning: “The Miami Beach Police Department wants to assure our residents and visitors there are no specific, credible threats to Miami Beach. Out of an abundance of caution, we have increased our uniformed presence throughout the city and at our schools to ensure public safety. We will continue to collaborate with community faith leaders and our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners. Your safety remains our top priority, and we urge you to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to MBPD at 305.673.7901.”
For all municipalities, 911 is always the fastest way to reach emergency assistance. We note that all municipalities are operating “real time crime centers” and — while helpful for dealing with legitimate threats — also help to lead to the arrests of those engaged in “Swatting” or similar false calls.
