Why Is Major Newspaper Ignorning Major Story?

BY: STAFF REPORT | BocaNewsNow.com
UPDATE: As of 8:11 a.m., the story now appears on the Palm Beach Post website. After not appearing all night and into the morning, the story carries a time of 10:12 p.m. Do we believe it? Why did it not appear until Wednesday morning?
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — We don’t like to call out other media — it’s a tough time to be in the news business — but we have to ask this question: how did the Palm Beach Post completely miss the major Palm Beach County Commission vote on the unprecedented GL Homes plan to trade land in Loxahatchee for permission to build in the Agricultural Reserve? (The plan was rejected. Read our coverage here).
Both BocaNewsNow.com and the Sun Sentinel reported the vote within minutes of it being ratified. Reporters watched, wrote, reported, and transmitted stories in real-time. That’s what real news organizations do. But as of 5:49 a.m. Wednesday, nearly nine hours after the vote, the Palm Beach Post still hasn’t reported on the story. Instead, the PB Post website is featuring a story about a festival and something involving a Golden Girls restaurant.
The Palm Beach Post, and owner Gannett, constantly report on the problems the company and publication face reporting. We read about their new initiatives. The “USA Today Network.” This plan and that plan. And why you should pay to subscribe now. But when news matters, the Palm Beach Post seems to be focused on meaningless features that fill space and nothing more.
To our friends at the Sun Sentinel: thanks for the competition. It’s fun when reporters actually compete to be first and accurate. And it’s the public that wins. To the Palm Beach Post: get it together. You are a major news operation serving a huge area. Act like it.
