BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2023 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Florida Highway Patrol midday Friday released the following details of the early morning crash that closed I-95 near Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport. The highway remains closed as of 1:10 p.m.
All lanes of northbound Interstate 95 currently closed. Traffic is being diverted to I595
Vehicle 1 (V-1) – 2021 black Nissan Altima sedan
Vehicle 2 (V-2) – 2008 Volvo Tractor / 2014 Stoughton Trailer
Vehicle 3 (V-3) – 1991 Trim Trailer (Unoccupied)
Persons involved:
Driver of Vehicle 1 (D-1) – 39-Year-Old Black Female from Pompano Beach, Florida
Driver of Vehicle 2 (D-2) – Positive Identification Pending, Next of Kin has not been notified
V-1 was traveling northbound upon the outside center lane of northbound Interstate 95 south of State Road 84. V-2 was traveling northbound upon the inside center lane of northbound Interstate 95. For reasons yet to be determined, the front left of V-1 collided with the rear right portion of the trailer of V-2. Post collision with V-1, V-2 traveled in a northwesterly direction towards the median of Interstate 95. V-2 collided with the concrete median wall and traveled into a portion of the median that is currently under construction. As V-2 traveled over the concrete median, V-2 overturned onto its roof. The right side then collided with an unoccupied trailer (V-3) in the construction zone. V-2 came to rest on its roof, with its left side in contact with the concrete median wall and the right side in contact with the unoccupied trailer. V-2 then became fully engulfed in flames. V-1 was driven to a stop facing north while occupying the outside and outside center lane of northbound Interstate 95. This is still an on-going investigation.
