BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — In the first edition of our new feature called “Nextdorons,” dedicated to social media posts from local residents and visitors who just don’t get it, we feature a woman who posted to a public platform about a visit from the police over a dog.

The woman, apparently living in the subdivision of Boca Raton known as “Clueless Estates,” doesn’t understand why you can’t just leave your dog in your car. While we give her credit for not wanting to bring her dog inside of Publix, we do have to wonder why she couldn’t just leave her pooch at home.

“So, last night the police knocked on my door,” wrote the woman on a publicly accessible forum. “Apparently, when I went to Publix to pick up an order I left my dog in the car with the windows rolled down. Keep in mind it was cloudy and overcast all day yesterday and it was cool out. Some woman thought I was being cruel and called the police. Gave them my tag number so they can find me and let me know that someone had taken the time to file a complaint. What a waste of our tax payers money. My dog was fine for the entire 6 minutes that I was gone. He was also fine when the police officer came to my door. Come on people. Have a little common sense. This is not a police required situation.”

Our take: it’s exactly a police situation and whichever department visited should be commended for following up on a potential animal cruelty situation. Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control doesn’t think twice about taking possession of dogs in Palm Beach County that are placed in compromising situations. Leaving a dog in a car when that dog should have been left home is likely that sort of situation.

Lady who left her dog in her car, then was surprised when police showed up, you are our first Nextdoron! Congratulations!

We remind our readers: there’s no expectation of privacy in a public place, and there’s no privacy when you post to a public forum. Don’t want to be seen here? Don’t be absurd here! If you owned a cat, would you bring it for a ride to Publix?

I agree with that sentiment. Animals belong at home.

“Damn if you do, damn if you don’t”. Your news, constantly, posts the problem of people bringing their dogs into Publix- which I agree.
Now you post about a dog left in the car, with windows rolled down and in mild temperature. Maybe the owner had to make, a last minute stop to Publix? And, maybe for only 15 minutes? I do not believe it is animal cruelty. Again, “Damn if you do, damn if you don’t”.

How about leaving the dog at home? The crazy dog people talk about dogs as being their children. Would you leave a child in a car? Of course not. DCFS would have you arrested and take custody of the child. You are correct: you can’t have it both ways.

What if some other person stayed in car on parking lot with dog when another person went to Publix?
